It’s hard to believe that last month we were wondering where the sunny weather had gone – and now it’s well and truly here with a vengeance! The temperatures are high and so are visitor numbers to the Peak District; it’s wonderful to see so many people out enjoying the hills and the dales.
There’s LOADS going on over the summer in the Peak District, and it’s been a very busy month with the team from Let’s Go Peak District too…
Our Adventures in July
Well, Well, Well …
The summer is traditionally Well Dressing season in the Peak District, and we’ve been following many of the absolutely beautiful designs that have been gracing the area’s towns and villages since May.
We were also lucky enough to be able to go behind the scenes as one such Well Dressing was created, from start to finish, and it’s a fascinating process. Click HERE to have a look at Suzanne’s short video all about The Story of a Well Dressing.
Peak District Voices
Every few weeks on our wonderful website we feature a new ‘Peak District Voice’. Our Peak District Voices are inspirational people from all over the area, who create blog posts for us about their lives and adventures. This month we heard from the ‘darlings’ at Baslow WI, who are a very active lot! These ladies are always out walking or cycling or lunching or hosting craft events – it’s amazing they found the time to write and tell us all about it! But they did, and it’s a great read – click HERE to see for yourself.
Guest Photographers from our Facebook Group
As you may know, Let’s Go Peak District has a Facebook page which now has over 43,000 followers, and an attached Facebook Group with over 6,000 members. Our Facebook Group is a lively, supportive forum in which people can swap ideas, share events, pick up tips and show off their own photographs from around the Peak District.
Every two weeks we feature a photograph from one of the members of our Facebook Group on our main page. In July we’ve seen fantastic images from Mark Butterley, ‘One Last Cast’ (L), and Sarah-Jane Hutchinson, ‘Haddon Hall Sunset’ (R). We’ll share another two photographs in August.

Summer School Holiday Ideas
The loooong Summer school holidays are now stretching out in front of us. If you’re a kid, that’s brilliant; if you’re an over-stretched parent trying to think of ways to keep the darlings amused for 6 whole weeks, less so.
But in July we published our Pick of the Top 10 Days Out in the Peak District for the whole family to enjoy. There are plenty of choices for rainy days if the weather doesn’t play ball, and choices that won’t break the bank. Click HERE for some inspiration.
It’s a great time of year to dust off your walking boots and get out there into the Peak District countryside. If you’d like to try a new route, look no further than the stunning new walk we added from the Staffordshire Peak District – we challenge you to try it and not love it!
Starting at the lovely Wetton Mill, the follows the course of the Manifold Way past spectacular limestone cliffs, through shady woodland and alongside the River Manifold, before heading quite gently uphill to some of the most fantastic and far-reaching views in the area. It emerges in the pretty village of Wetton at roughly the halfway point, where there are public toilets and a dog-friendly pub that serves good food and real ales. From Wetton the route follows field tracks down into the hidden Manifold Valley, a peaceful haven for wildlife, before returning to the start point.

Spotlight on …. Dovedale
Our website contains loads of information about Peak District towns, villages, attractions and places of interest. Every month in the Newsletter we’ll feature a place that you might like to learn more about, but keep an eye on the website for more information about your own favourite spots.
Many of you will have visited the stunning limestone valley of Dovedale – it’s one of the best loved beauty spots in the Peak District National Park, and actually one of the most visited natural sites in Britain. Its steep crags tower above the River Dove as it tumbles through the dale, crossed by a picture-perfect set of stepping stones.
Did you know that in 1931 Dovedale was one of the areas earmarked for the very first national park in England? It was eventually included within the bounds of the Peak District twenty years later, when it became the first national park in 1951. Click HERE to read more about Dovedale.
Peak District Views
You’ve heard all about our ‘Peak District Voices’, but we’re very excited to announce that in July we launched ‘Peak District Views’. These are hugely talented guest photographers, all based in the Peak District, who share their beautiful photographs of the area with you through our Facebook page.
Our first Peak District Views are Peter Simons and Wesley Kristopher. Please take a moment to appreciate these stunning images from their portfolios, the first from Peter and the second from Wesley. We are delighted that we’ll be able to publish more wonderful examples of their work over the coming weeks and months.
Keep watching our website and Facebook page for more fabulous Peak District Views coming soon.
