Buxton Crescent Visitor Experience Opens Its Doors!
Buxton Crescent Visitor Experience will open its doors to welcome the first local residents and visitors on Tuesday 20th October. The brand-new boutique attraction set in eight rooms in the Georgian Crescent reveals the story of a special spa town, the building’s remarkable restoration and Buxton’s famous water.
The area’s most anticipated year-round, all-weather attraction is the perfect starting point for anyone visiting or learning about Buxton. The Buxton Crescent experience lasts just over an hour and is fully accessible. Entry will be by pre-booked timed tickets, in ‘Buxton Bubble’ groups of between 1 and 6 people.
Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust is a registered charity that also runs the Buxton Visitor Centre within the Victorian Pump Room opposite the Buxton Crescent and is planning a year-round programme of inspiring events, experiences and learning visits.
The Trust’s Patron, The Duke of Devonshire, commented that
“It is heartening to see so many years of hard work and determination coming to fruition with the reopening of the Crescent and the launch of the Buxton Crescent Visitor Experience.
I am proud to continue the connection between Chatsworth and the Buxton Crescent, and the Experience provides a wonderful opportunity for people to learn more about the town, the building and the people who helped shape the Buxton we know today.
The redevelopment of the entire Crescent complex will further strengthen the tourism sector within Derbyshire, and support those businesses associated with the industry”
James Berresford, Chair of The Trust, added “Thanks to considerable support from our key funders including the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Derbyshire County Council, High Peak Borough Council, D2N2 and Historic England, the Crescent has been carefully restored and we have created an imaginative and innovative new Visitor Experience in this iconic building. Funders and sponsors have been visiting us on socially distanced visits for the past couple of weeks and their feedback has been terrific.
I am very proud of what we have achieved and believe it will be a great asset for the area. The Trust has also partnered with Nestle Waters UK/BUXTON Natural mineral Water, The University of Derby, The Bingham Trust, Wedgwood and with the help of many other highly valued organisations and individuals we are proud to open our doors during these challenging but celebratory days“
Anne Jenkins, Director, England, Midlands & East at The National Lottery Heritage Fund, said: “Thanks to National Lottery players, we’re very proud that we have been able to support the formation of the Buxton Crescent Visitor Experience, and we hope that many of them pay a visit to this fantastic new attraction. Buxton is a town brimming with history, and this new experience will allow visitors from far and wide to discover its fascinating heritage.”
