Casterne Hall is a beautiful Grade II listed manor house overlooking the Manifold Valley in the heart of the Peak District National Park. Surrounded by the most stunning countryside, this wonderful property is available for luxury Bed and Breakfast accommodation and also has its own charming self-catering holiday property, The Hayloft.
Casterne Hall has been home to the Hurt family for over 500
years. Described by
Country Life Magazine as ‘Grandeur in Miniature’, this ancient house is
still occupied by the descendants of those who originally built it. Parts of Casterne Hall date back to Georgian,
Jacobean, Medieval and even Roman times.
Now you can experience life in this beautiful manor house
too, with luxury Bed and Breakfast accommodation available.
Casterne Hall has four guest bedrooms – two Super-King rooms
and two Twin rooms – in an exclusive suite on the top floor. The suite also includes a large and very
comfortable living room with two sofa beds, a wood burner (logs supplied), and
a TV with Sky TV. There is a kitchenette
and a large dining table for enjoying cosy evening meals.
There are also three more bedrooms available (two Double
rooms and one Single room) on the first floor if required.
All rooms are furnished to the highest standards of taste, comfort and elegance. The comfortable beds all have Egyptian cotton bedlinen with feather toppers and electric blankets. All rooms have tea- and coffee-making facilities.
Please note that, due to the age and layout of Casterne Hall, only one bedroom has an en-suite bathroom. It has a bath with an attached shower.
Free wifi is available throughout the Hall.
By prior arrangement and for a small additional cost, hearty, full-English breakfasts can be served to guests each morning. All food is freshly prepared using locally-sourced ingredients wherever possible, including free-range eggs from Casterne Hall’s own hens and home-made marmalade and jams.
If required guests can also enjoy a superb three-course
dinner in the evening. Again, ingredients
are locally-sourced with a strong emphasis on organic and seasonal produce,
often from Casterne Hall’s kitchen garden.
Another option is to order from our wide range of delicious, home-made, oven-ready meals.
Alternatively, if you would prefer to try out one of the
local Peak District pubs, The George is a multi award-winning pub and
restaurant in the beautiful village of Alstonefield, only a 10 minute drive
away. The many independent pubs,
restaurants and cafés of the delightful market town of Ashbourne are only 15
Children are very welcome at Casterne Hall, as are your dogs and horses (by prior arrangement). Horses can be stabled overnight and Casterne Hall offers exceptional equestrian facilities, including off-road hacking, a 30 x 50 all-weather menage with a full set of show jumps, a horse walker, solarium and fantastic grazing.
Casterne Hall also boasts its own charming holiday property, The Hayloft, situated in the former stable yard. This recently-converted one bedroomed flat has marvellous views over the Manifold Valley. It is stylishly decorated and furnished with all the modern amenities needed to make your stay special.
On arrival you will be welcomed with a plate of either homemade cakes or biscuits and the log burner will be lit for you, with a basket of wood also provided. A welcome pack of eggs is also usually provided (from Casterne Hall’s own free-range hens), as well as bread, butter, tea, coffee, homemade jam and marmalade.
With advance notice your hosts are happy to take delivery of an online shop for you, or they can provide an extensive choice of homemade, oven-ready meals which you can pre-order. They can also supply picnics and, if required, guests at The Hayloft can enjoy a full English breakfast served in the dining room at Casterne Hall.
The Hayloft Accommodation
The Hayloft has an open planning sitting room and
kitchen. The sitting room area has a
cosy woodburner, so even on the coldest winter days you will be as warm as
toast. There is a large TV and free
wifi, as well as DVDs, books, games and jigsaws to keep you amused.
The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you might want
to rustle up dinner.
The bedroom has a very comfortable Kingsize bed with Egyptian
cotton linen and an electric blanket.
The bathroom has an elegant, free-standing claw-footed bath with a separate power shower. Luxurious towelling and bath robes are provided.
Outside, The Hayloft has its own private garden and barbecue area, all with fabulous views of the surrounding countryside.
Please note that The Hayloft is located on the first floor and the outside steps may not be suitable for the elderly or infirm.
Casterne Hall is surrounded by the wonderful countryside of the Peak District, the Derbyshire Dales and the Staffordshire Moorlands.
Set in its own extensive grounds, with wonderful views of the Manifold Valley, Casterne Hall is at the centre of some of the most beautiful walking country in the whole of Britain, with several footpaths leading literally from the doorstep. (Charles Hurt, owner of the Hall and author of ‘On Foot in the Peak District’, is usually on hand to advise.) Ilam village and the famous beauty spot of Dovedale are only a mile and a half away.
If cycling is more your thing, do feel free to bring your bike with you. Again, there are superb routes from the house and the Manifold Way, an 8 mile long traffic-free track through spectacular countryside, is close by. The Tissington Trail and High Peak Trail are also easily reachable.
If you really want the ultimate luxury venue for your celebration, social event or business gathering, you can now rent the whole of Casterne Hall! The house will be exclusively yours for one night, a weekend or a week, allowing you to live the experience of the country house idyll with your family and friends.
