Why not try one of the local Let’s Go Peak District walks during your stay?
Our Wetton Mill and the Manifold Way Walk (5 miles) follows the course of the Manifold Way past spectacular limestone cliffs, through shady woodland and alongside the River Manifold, before heading gently uphill to the pretty village of Wetton and returning to the start point via the hidden Manifold Valley, a peaceful haven for wildlife.
Or our Hartington Dales Walk (5.4 miles) starts from Hartington village and takes you through beautiful woodland into Beresford Dale and onwards into Wolfscote Dale, where the path runs beside the crystal-clear River Dove that marks the boundary between Derbyshire and Staffordshire. The route then returns through the steep-sided Biggin Dale and back into Hartington on quiet lanes with superb views.
Or our Dovedale and Hall Dale Walk (6 miles) offers the most beautiful views of this stunning part of the Peak District. It crosses the famous stepping stones in Dovedale, walks on shady paths alongside the River Dove as it cuts between towering limestone crags, tracks through the grassy slopes of Hall Dale, strewn with wildflowers, and passes through the picture-perfect village of Ilam before returning to Dovedale.
Slightly further afield from Cuckoostone Barn but within easy driving distance are the historic towns of Buxton, Leek and Ashbourne, all of which are renowned for their independent shops, cafés and beautiful architecture.
Don’t just take our word for it!
“Cuckoostone Barn was fantastic. It was spotless and we loved everything about it. The log-burner especially was great on a cold winter’s evening and the underfloor heating in the bathroom was certainly a great luxury. The scenery around the area was spectacular – we wish we could have stayed longer!” – C
“Cuckoostone Barn has been beautifully designed and finished to an extremely high standard. There were freshly-laid eggs, milk, bread, local cheeses and home-made chutney on our arrival. Fresh flowers in vases was another great finishing touch. A fabulous place to stay which I will be highly recommending to family and friends.” – E
