Milldale Cottage Company have two truly beautiful holiday cottages in surely one of the prettiest locations in the whole of the Peak District! The little hamlet of Milldale is an absolute gem, a picture-perfect collection of traditional stone cottages on rural lanes beside the crystal-clear River Dove. You’ll soon see why both cottages were awarded Visit England 5 Star Gold Awards!

Both Duck Cottage and Riverside Cottage sleep up to 6 people, offering luxury accommodation in cosy, characterful properties, furnished to the very highest standard. They are the perfect choice for gathering friends and family together to enjoy this wonderful area.

Duck Cottage, Milldale

Located in the heart of Milldale, Duck Cottage blends country character and charm with comfortable, modern, open-plan living.

On entering the cottage via the stable door, you’ll find a fully-equipped kitchen, complete with an oven, ceramic hob, microwave, dishwasher, washer/dryer, and all the kitchenware you might need. There’s a coffee machine and a selection of pods in the kitchen, as well as a range of store cupboard essentials.

There’s even a welcome hamper provided for you, with crusty bread, butter, marmalade, fresh eggs, bacon, fresh coffee, English Breakfast Tea and milk – not to mention a bottle of fizz and a delicious cake!

The dining area has a large farmhouse table, just perfect for cosy kitchen suppers.

Beautiful Peak District Holiday Cottages : Duck Cottage, Milldale

The adjoining sitting room is stylishly comfortable, with a wood-burning stove to curl up with in the evening after a day out exploring the Peak District. A basket of logs and kindling is provided. There’s a TV (with Sky Cinema Movies and Sky Sports), a DVD player with a selection of DVDs, an iPod dock and WiFi throughout. For more traditional fun you’ll find a range of board games. You’ll also find a writing desk area with an Apple Mac computer to organise day trips or walks.

Head upstairs at Duck Cottage and you’ll find the beautiful Master bedroom suite at the front of the property. Here you can relax in complete comfort in the luxury King size bed. Fresh cotton bed linen is provided.

The en-suite bathroom has a tub style bath. Soft, fluffy towels and bathrobes for each guest are also provided, as well as a hairdryer, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and soap.

A second set of stairs leads to the rear of the property, where you’ll find two further bedrooms and a family bathroom. The second bedroom also has a King size bed, while the third bedroom has full-size single bunk beds, as well as a TV/DVD player. The family bathroom has a large walk-in shower and modern sanitary ware.

Outside at Duck Cottage you’ll find two outdoor seating areas. To the front is a private courtyard with a table, chairs and bench seating. A set of steps then leads you to an additional private elevated terrace, from which you can enjoy spectacular views at the rear of the property. It’s an ideal spot for watching the sun set and soaking up the fresh country air.

Off street parking is available for guests.

Riverside Cottage, Milldale

Riverside Cottage offers the same country charm with more modern, luxurious comforts in this wonderful holiday home for up to 6 people.

On entering the cottage via the breakfast room, you’ll find a charming country dining area with a beautiful Aga and a large farmhouse table, perfect for cosy kitchen suppers. There’s also a desk area here with an Apple Mac computer for planning your next day’s adventures. There’s free WiFi throughout the cottage.

The well-equipped galley kitchen has a combination oven and ceramic hob, as well as a refrigerator, freezer and dishwasher. There’s even a welcome hamper included for you, with a bottle of fizz, milk, crusty bread, butter, marmalade, fresh eggs and bacon, English breakfast tea, fresh coffee and cake. There’s a Tassimo coffee machine and a selection of pods, as well as a range of store cupboard essentials and a selection of recipe books.

To the rear is a boot room perfect for boots, wellies and coats – not to mention soggy dogs!

Leading from the breakfast room is a cosy sitting room with comfortable sofas and a wood-burning stove, just perfect for relaxing after a day exploring the beautiful countryside. A basket of logs and kindling is provided.

An additional family sitting room has a TV (with Sky Sports and Sky Cinema Movies), an iPod dock, and an electric wood-burning stove. Ideal for gathering the family together for movies or games nights!

Upstairs at Riverside Cottage you’ll find three large, beautifully-appointed bedrooms, all made up with luxury cotton bed linen. Two have Super King beds and the third has a King Size bed. Both Super King bedrooms can be configured with two twin beds instead, if you’d prefer.

Outside at Riverside Cottage there are several outdoor seating areas where you can relax and watch the world go by, including tables and chairs to the front and rear, plus a garden room with wicker seating. A residents’ off-road parking space is available, as is cycle storage.

Your dog is welcome at Riverside Cottage, and we know your four-legged friends will enjoy their Peak District adventures as much as you will!

The properties at Milldale Cottage Company are in a stunning location, offering the very best of the Peak District countryside. Situated in the White Peak, surrounded by rolling hills and wooded valleys, it sits alongside the babbling River Dove, famed for centuries for its fly fishing. The lovely valley of Dovedale, with its iconic stepping stones, is very close by.

Milldale is small, peaceful and utterly idyllic, and you’re assured a warm welcome from the village ducks. Polly’s Cottage in Milldale sells hot and cold drinks and delicious snacks, and is deservedly popular with the many walkers who come from all over Britain to explore this part of the Dove Valley.

Within walking distance is the quaint village of Alstonefield, which has a wonderful fine dining restaurant, The George, serving superb food.

Only 8 miles away you’ll find the historic market town of Ashbourne, renowned for its independent shops and cafés, and within 12 miles you can reach Bakewell, home of the famous pudding. Slightly further afield but still within easy driving distance is the graceful spa town of Buxton, famed for its graceful Georgian architecture and elegant Opera House.

Walking from Duck Cottage and Riverside Cottage

This is unbeatable walking and cycling country, and there are a great many walks into the surrounding countryside right from the front door of Milldale Cottage Company’s two fabulous properties.

Why not try a Let’s Go Peak District local walk during your stay?

Our Dovedale and Ilam Walk (6 miles) starts from nearby Dovedale. It crosses the famous stepping stones, walks on shady paths alongside the River Dove as it cuts between towering limestone cliffs, tracks through the grassy slopes of Hall Dale and passes through the picture-perfect village of Ilam before returning to Dovedale. There are magnificent views along the way, although this route does not feel like a tough one and is a good one for the whole family to enjoy, maybe with a picnic en route.
