Ollerbrook Barn Location

Ollerbrook Barn is situated in the heart of the Peak District, in the little farming hamlet of Ollerbrook Booth, one of the ancient booths (settlements) forming part of the parish of Edale.  It’s an ideal base for touring the Peak District and the Derbyshire Dales.

The pretty village of Edale is surrounded by probably the most stunning scenery in the whole of the Peak District.  It is circled by the towering slopes of Kinder Scout to the north, the Great Ridge of Mam Tor to the south, Win Hill to the east and Dalehead to the west.

This is true hill walking country, with footpaths leading directly from the garden of Ollerbrook Barn to suit everyone, from the beginner to the amateur mountaineer.  Edale is well known as the starting point of Britain’s first and most famous long-distance path, the 270 mile Pennine Way.

Your hosts at Ollerbrook Barn can provide packed lunches for those who want to head out into the hills for the day, and friendly advice to help make your day trips complete.

Edale has a shop, a café, two wonderful pubs, a welcoming church, and a large Visitor Information Centre (plus a mountain rescue post!).

Despite its remote appeal, Edale can be easily reached by road or by train on the Hope Valley line between Manchester and Sheffield, and guests can be met at the station if necessary.

The beautiful villages of Castleton and Hope are within walking distance across the hills, where you’ll find a wealth of cafés, pubs and independent shops, not to mention the four magnificent show caverns and the romantic ruins of Peveril Castle in Castleton.

Slightly further afield but within easy driving distance is the elegant spa town of Buxton, with its graceful Georgian architecture and renowned Opera House.  The spa is still operating and visitors can take their own bottle to fill with Buxton mineral water for free.  Market days are Tuesdays and Saturdays.

In the other direction lies the pretty market town of Bakewell, where you can browse the many shops on old cobbled streets and savour a real Bakewell tart or pudding.  Close by, nobody can fail to be impressed by the wonderful country estates of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall.
