About Rookery Cottage

Rookery Cottage was originally built as the livery accommodation for the stables at The Rookery, and is situated within the grounds of this beautiful Grade II listed 18th Century country house.

Rookery Cottage has its own private garden on the banks of the River Wye (the river has been fenced for the security of younger visitors), providing ample space to relax in, or for children to play in. Fishing is available on request.

Wonderful outside space to relax

Rookery Cottage has a large, comfortable sitting room with a log fire – just perfect for relaxing around after a long day exploring in the countryside. There’s a DVD player and an iPod/iPhone dock as well as a radio CD player, and wireless broadband is available. There’s also a selection of books about the area, which are there for guests to browse.

There is a separate dining room which comfortably seats up to 8 people, as well as an outside eating area with a barbecue available for guests’ use.

The newly refurbished kitchen is ideal for cooking up a feast. It’s equipped with everything you might need for your self-catering holiday, including an electric oven and microwave, an electric hob, a fridge freezer, a dishwasher and a washing machine. Basic food items and household essentials are also included, and food hampers can be provided on request.

Rookery Cottage comfortably sleeps up to 6 people, with space for an additional child in a cot or put-up bed. The main bedroom has an en-suite bathroom and a bay window that offers a peaceful view out over the garden and the river.

All the bedrooms have been furnished to the highest quality; 100% cotton bed linen, fluffy towels and additional blankets for cold nights are standard, with anti-allergy pillows and duvets available on request.

Please note that dogs are not permitted in Rookery Cottage.

Rookery Cottage is set in a peaceful and secluded location, offering every opportunity to relax in the grounds, or providing an excellent base from which to go out and explore the wonderful Peak District National Park.

Rookery Cottage is situated in the heart of the chocolate-box village of Ashford-in-the-Water, arguably one of the prettiest villages in the Peak District. The cottage is an easy walk into the centre of the village, where you’ll find two great pubs for food and real ales, as well as a cafe/tea room, a Post Office and an excellent village shop, Roberts, which stocks a wide variety of food, from delicatessen items to household essentials.

Ashford-in-the-Water is ideally suited for walkers and cyclists, with a large selection of trails and walks nearby, including the lovely Monsal Trail, a traffic-free path that runs for 8.5 miles between Chee Dale and Bakewell.

Only a few miles away, 5 minutes in a car, you’ll find the ancient market town of Bakewell, renowned for its pudding! You’re also within easy driving distance of the magnificent country estates of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall.
