If you’re looking for a relaxing campsite offering peace and quiet in a stunning setting, then Smithyfields Campsite is the one for you! Smithyfields Campsite is a small, immaculate, adults-only site, that proudly only allows a maximum of two pitches to book together, to ensure that all campers have an enjoyable, peaceful stay. 

For those who fancy a bit of stress-free glamping, there are also two adorable shepherd’s huts, each sleeping 2 people, available to hire. 

Situated in the picturesque village of Alstonefield, close to Milldale on the Staffordshire/Derbyshire border, Smithyfields Campsite has far-reaching views over Dovedale and Wolfescote Dale, with miles of beautiful footpaths and excellent cycling routes to enjoy from the door!

Smithyfields Campsite 1

Smithyfields Campsite offers grass only pitches in two sizes to accommodate all kinds of campers. Choose from a large 8m x 8m pitch with electric hook up, suitable for motorhomes, caravans, caravans with awnings, camper vans, or those who just want a little more outdoor space to enjoy the tranquility of the site, or a smaller 8m x 4m pitch, perfect for smaller camper vans or tents, which can be booked with or without electric hook up.

On site you’ll also find a warm, spotless toilet block with hot showers, often described as the best campsite facilities visitors have used!  

There’s also a chemical disposal point too.

This fabulous campsite is a truly lovely base to unwind and enjoy its picturesque location.


Shepherd’s Huts – Each Sleeping 2 People

For those looking to enjoy the finer luxuries of a glamping holiday, the two Shepherd’s Huts at Smithyfields Campsite are absolutely gorgeous, with beautiful views over the Dovedale Valley. Situated in The Croft, a private area of the campsite, these cosy huts can be booked individually or together, so they’re perfect for two couples wishing to travel together. Each of the delightful timber Shepherd’s Huts have been lovingly handmade by a local craftsman and have been thoughtfully furnished to the highest standard.

Bailey’s View – Sleeps 2

Bailey’s View is the largest of the two huts at Smithyfields Campsite, with a fully functioning kitchen, including hob, oven, fridge/freezer, sink, kettle and toaster, together with all other cooking essentials. Bailey’s View also has a separate double bedroom and bathroom with toilet, sink and walk-in shower, so all the home comforts you could need – including full central heating! Outside there’s a lovely decked area, complete with bistro set, fire pit and BBQ, perfect for some al fresco dining after a day exploring this beautiful area.

Bertie’s – Sleeps 2 (Dog Friendly)

Although the smaller of the two huts, Bertie’s is just as adorable, and even has a cosy wood burner! Here you’ll find a compact kitchenette area, with fridge, hob, kettle and sink, together with other cooking essentials. There’s also a comfortable double bed, dining area, TV and use of the campsite’s immaculate toilet and shower facilities. Outside, there is another great decked area with bistro set, fire pit and BBQ.

Location

The location of Smithyfields Campsite is just perfect!  The central location in Alstonefield, a picturesque village, with traditional village green, provides the benefit of being within short walking distance of a fabulous pub serving food, yet tucked away enough to enjoy the peace and seclusion that this campsite boasts! (Even better, there is another great pub just 15 minutes’ walk away too, again serving food!)

Surrounded by rivers, valleys and dales, you’ll be spoilt for choice for stunning places to walk, such as the picturesque Beresford Dale, Wolfscote Dale or the Dovedale Stepping Stones. In just 5 minutes you can cycle to the Tissington Trail, a 13 mile traffic-free cycle route, leading you to gorgeous villages such as Hartington, Tissington and Thorpe, or to Hulme End to pick up The Manifold Way, an 8 mile route through the beautiful Manifold Valley. At Hulme End, in the heart of the Manifold Valley, you can enjoy a delicious pub meal or some scrumptious cake from the tea rooms.

For those wishing to browse the shops, the delightful village of Hartington is just 10-minute drive away, and the larger market town of Ashbourne just 20 minutes away. With great access from the A515 you’re just 30 minutes from the spa town of Buxton, a fabulous place to experience the arts, enjoy a huge selection of eateries, independent shops and stunning architecture, or the delightful town of Bakewell, famous for its traditional Bakewell pudding.

So, whether you decide to head out on foot, by bike, or by car, you’ll be spoilt for choice for wonderful places to enjoy from your fabulous base at Smithyfields Campsite!
