About Speedwell House Holiday Cottages
Following the success and popularity of Speedwell House Bed and Breakfast in Castleton, owners Mark and Hilary have sympathetically renovated the adjacent buildings, providing two lovely self-catering properties with breathtaking views.
With the mix of accommodation offered, Speedwell House Holiday Cottages are ideal for a romantic getaway or for a small group of friends who prefer their own accommodation. Even better, Speedwell House Holiday Cottages are pet-friendly too, so you can bring your four-legged friends along with you. We know they’ll love this spot as much as you will!
Guests at Speedwell House Holiday Cottages can enjoy the peaceful patio area, with stunning views out to the hills beyond. You also have full use of a private meadow, ideal for exercising your dog or to let the children go wild in the countryside! Parking for one car at each property is provided.
Speedwell House Stable (Sleeps 2-4)
Speedwell House Stable is all on ground level and has been stylishly refurbished to give a modern yet rustic, cosy feel, with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. With a double bedroom and an additional sofa bed in the lounge, Speedwell House Stable can sleep 2-4 people – and of course there’s room for your dog too!
In the cosy, comfortable lounge you’ll find free WiFi and On Demand TV, making it the perfect place to snuggle up and relax at the end of a day exploring the Peak District. There’s central heating throughout Speedwell House Stable to keep you warm even on the coldest winter days.
The kitchen area includes all essential utensils and electrical appliances, including a dishwasher. There’s a hand-made dining breakfast bar which complements the doors within Speedwell House Stable, all made using reclaimed and natural timbers. The stable door opens from the kitchen to the patio area outside, so you can enjoy the fresh air and glorious sounds of the countryside whilst enjoying breakfast or your evening meal.
The spacious double bedroom boasts a gorgeous, hand-made, four poster bed and matching clothes rail. The ensuite bathroom has a wonderful rain shower and yet more natural features, including the handmade sink unit made from original slate roof tiles. And with direct access to the patio area and picnic table, it’s the perfect place to wake up and enjoy your morning coffee!
Speedwell House Barn (Sleeps 2-4)
Speedwell House Barn has been renovated to the same high standard as Speedwell House Stable, this time with a mix of rustic timber and urban pipework, giving a contemporary yet cosy feel. With a double bedroom and an additional sofa bed in the lounge, Speedwell House Barn can sleep 2-4 people and welcomes your well-behaved dog.
The comfortable lounge area comes with WiFi and On Demand TV, providing all you need for a cosy, relaxing stay. There’s central heating throughout Speedwell House Barn to keep you warm even on the coldest winter days.
The kitchen/dining area has so much attention to detail, with floating shelves, a breakfast bar and all essential utensils and appliances. The door opens out on to the patio area, providing a wonderful place to eat indoors whilst enjoying the fresh air and the rural sounds of the outdoors.
The shower room is also located on the ground floor, with a power shower and a copper-topped, handmade sink unit.
The bedroom at Speedwell House Barn on a first-floor mezzanine, accessed via an open plan spiral staircase. It has a stylish, hand-made bed, and purpose-made furniture, optimizing the space available. What could be nicer than lying in bed, star gazing through the two Velux roof windows?!
Speedwell House Holiday Cottages Location
There’s no wonder that idyllic Castleton is such a popular place for visitors and locals alike. The awe-inspiring ‘Shivering Mountain’ of Mam Tor is right on the doorstep, making it the ideal base for hikers. For adventurers of all ages the imposing ruins of Peveril Castle are great to explore, as are the four stunning show caverns, all within walking distance of Speedwell House Holiday Cottages. Castleton village boasts not one, but six great country pubs, as well as a wide range of shops, cafes and restaurants.
With all this so close at hand you may never want to stray far from base, but just a short drive away you’ll find the elegant spa town of Buxton, with its gracious architecture and many visitor attractions. Not far in the other direction you’ll find the historic market town of Bakewell, famous for its delicious puddings, as well as the country house estates of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall.
