You’re guaranteed to receive a warm welcome from the owners and staff at The Black Lion Inn, who have kept the pub’s traditional feel in its beautiful surroundings. As you would imagine, the pub itself is full of original features and roaring open fires, and has a lovely beer garden with views of the surrounding countryside. Both provide the perfect place to relax with a drink or tasty meal after enjoying one of the many walks in this beautiful area of the Peak District National Park.  

The Black Lion Inn is not only renowned for its fabulous food and excellent drinks menu (including ales from local brewers), but also for its regular events and lively, welcoming atmosphere. Keep an eye out for The Black Lion’s regular quiz nights, live music, and annual festival in the summer!

Excellent Home-cooked Meals

As one of the owners is an experienced chef, you’re guaranteed a regularly changing menu at The Black Lion Inn. Everything is made from scratch, so all diets can be catered for with confidence. All of the home-cooked meals are made using fresh, local ingredients, some of them even homegrown in their very own organic kitchen garden!   

Local suppliers are used for meat and diary produce, including fresh free-range eggs from nearby Warslow and sausages from the local butcher in Grindon.  

Choose from light bites such as freshly-made sandwiches, served with salad and coleslaw, to hearty dishes such as:

  • Fish & Chips
  • Lamb Shoulder Pie
  • Treacle-cured Fillet Steak
  • Wild Mushroom Risotto with Crème Fraiche and Parmesan Crisp
  • Delicious Sunday Roast

All followed by delightful desserts such as Bakewell Pudding and Sarah’s Chocolate Tart with Blackberry Ice Cream.

There are two double rooms at The Black Lion Inn which have recently been renovated to a high standard. Although modern, stylish and extremely comfortable, the rooms still retain the same charm and character that this traditional pub deserves, with lots of elegant features and antique touches. One of the rooms has an en-suite bath with over shower, and the other has a en-suite with large walk in shower. These spotless rooms are pet-friendly too, so your four-legged friends can tag along!

Cycle along The Manifold Way, an 8 mile mainly traffic-free trail through Staffordshire and Derbyshire, starting at nearby Hulme End, via Ecton, Wetton Mill and Thors Cave through to Waterhouses. For the thrill-seekers, Alton Towers Resort is just 8 miles away from The Black Lion Inn, making it a great place to call in afterwards, or to stay for the night so you can enjoy the thrills one day and the relaxing surrounding countryside the next!
