The Flying Childers Inn, located in the picturesque village of Stanton in Peak, is a fabulous example of what makes a great village pub! Recently voted the UK’s Best Pub for Dogs in the Great British Pub Awards, the owners and friendly locals welcome all visitors, particularly the four-legged variety! Situated five miles between Matlock and Bakewell, surrounded by beautiful countryside, The Flying Childers Inn is a great place to stop off for a well-deserved drink or a delicious bite to eat. Renowned for their extensive choice of real ales and their vegan-friendly menu, The Flying Childers Inn is a traditional pub with a difference that’s got something for everyone!

You’re sure to receive a lovely warm welcome at The Flying Childers Inn! The owners have gone out of their way to create an unspoilt gem of a pub, full of a traditional charm, with regular fun-filled events. Inside there’s a main bar and a cosy snug, both of which have characterful features such as exposed timber beams, intriguing nooks and crannies and warming open fires. Outside, there’s a gorgeous hidden cottage garden with plenty of seating and extra on the grass!

As you’d imagine, your dogs will be spoilt rotten at The Flying Childers Inn! Don’t worry if it’s rainy, they’ve got towels and of course the roaring fires to snuggle up in front of, as well as toys to keep them entertained and delicious homemade dog treats!


Vegan-Friendly Menu and Great Drinks Selection

The Flying Childers Inn has everything you could wish for in a traditional country inn, but their lunchtime menu offers something a little different! 

Most of the delicious lunches on offer are homemade vegan dishes, which are a firm favourite with everyone, but you’ll also find vegetarian and meat-based dishes, so there’s always something to suit all tastes and diets. There are daily specials such as homemade soups, vegan burgers, posh toasties and a great range of traditional pies and pasties. The vegan and veggie pasties are all homemade, and the meat pies are supplied by Crithlow’s. The bread and cakes are all fresh from Bakewell Bakery! Gluten-free options are available on request.

There are always plenty of real ales and local beers to choose from, together with excellent wines selectively picked from Hattersley Wines of Bakewell, and a fab selection of spirits and gins. Not to mention the wonderful cocktails, including traditional favourites and The Flying Childers Inn’s exotic specials!

Lunch is served from 12pm – 2pm Wednesday to Sunday

Evening opening times for drinks – 7pm to 11pm each day (excluding Tuesdays), with early 5pm opening on Friday.

Events

The evenings at The Flying Childers Inn are great! The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxing, with a friendly buzz from the locals, and regular fun-filled events.

At the end of a busy week pop in to the ‘’Friday at 5 Club’’ when The Flying Childers Inn opens its doors early for you to relax and unwind while enjoying a drink or two! There’s often special food evenings, such as Pizza Pi’s pop-up pizza service to enjoy in the pub, or to take away. Take along your instruments or sit and enjoy the talented musicians at their regular acoustic nights, or bring along your team to test your knowledge at the fun quiz nights.

Location

The Flying Childers Inn is situated in a fabulous spot! Stanton in Peak is a picturesque hillside village full of pretty stone cottages and lots of history. Surrounded by the stunning Stanton Moor, carpeted with heather, visitors love to explore the four bronze age stone circles, particularly the Nine Ladies Stone Circle. The elevated position of Stanton in Peak provides panoramic views over the surrounding Derbyshire countryside and is described as one of the best views in the country!  

There are many popular walking routes to enjoy from The Flying Childers Inn, including circular routes via the pretty villages of Youlgreave, Alport and Birchover, and Robin Hood’s Stride. The pretty village of Rowsley is just 1.5 miles away, where the River Derwent and River Wye meet, providing many relaxing riverside routes.

Regarded as one of the most beautiful medieval houses in the whole of England, Haddon Hall is just 2.5 miles from The Flying Childers Inn. Its hillside location, with rose-covered walls and views over the river Wye over five terraces are an absolute delight. Venture inside and you will step back in time and be amazed by the craftsmanship and history. Haddon Hall also hosts regular events throughout the year, and its Christmas Market is one not to be missed!

Being just five miles between the popular towns of Matlock and Bakewell, The Flying Childers Inn is the perfect place to stop off en-route to either destination or while visiting both!
