Upper Hurst Farm is far more than simply a campsite. This little slice of Peak District heaven is a peaceful, rural idyll that draws guests back time and time again. The elevated position means that you can enjoy panoramic views that stretch for miles over the rolling hills and dales.
Caravan and Camping Facilities at Upper Hurst Farm
The caravan and camping pitches at Upper Hurst Farm are on a large, gently-sloping field, offering stunning views over the beautiful surrounding countryside. Here you’ll find a selection of super-pitches, each one generously-sized at more than 11 square metres, with a 16A electric hook-up, its own water tap and grey waste disposal point.
There are also 11 grassy tent pitches, all with optional 10A electric hook-ups, set around the perimeter of the main camping area. The tent pitches are 9m x 9m which is ample for most tents, but if you have a particularly large tent or wish to bring additional gazebos, please advise when you book your pitch.
For campers with restricted mobility, there are two tent pitches on a flat, grassy area closer to the toilet and shower block.
The toilet and shower block at Upper Hurst Farm is immaculately clean and warm, with underfloor heating. It has been likened to a 5-Star hotel! There is unlimited hot water and a spacious wet room which offers easy access for wheelchair-users or those with limited mobility. Families with small children are allowed to use the wet room too.
There is a separate kitchen area with pot-washing equipment, laundry facilities and a small freezer for ice packs.
Barbecues and fire pits are allowed, but please buy your kindling and wood directly at the farm. This is because their wood is very dry and it prevents smoking out your neighbours! Use of your own charcoal is fine. Please use the bricks supplied to protect the grass.
Luxury Self-Catering and Glamping at Upper Hurst Farm
As well as the caravan and camping pitches at Upper Hurst Farm, they are proud to be able to offer accommodation in Gaia Lodge, a lovingly renovated gritstone barn. The barn is full of cosy charm and character, and still boasts exposed wooden roof trusses and flag stone flooring.
Perfect as a romantic retreat, Gaia Lodge includes an
open-plan living space, lounge area with log-burning stove, well-equipped
kitchen with dining area, a double bedroom and a stylish shower room.
Outside you’ll find a completely private decking area with a
red cedar wood-fired hot tub, allowing you to relax and unwind under the stars.
At Upper Hurst Farm they are also proud to be able to offer the ultimate glamping experience in an authentic Mongolian yurt. Spacious yet cosy, and situated in a secluded corner of the farm with uninterrupted views of the Peak District hills, Gaia’s Hideaway makes a wonderful couples’ retreat and a perfect way to escape from the stresses of everyday life.
Inside, Gaia’s Hideaway is lavishly furnished with an enormous circular bed and goose-feather and down duvet and pillows. You’ll find indulgent luxury with Egyptian cotton linen and towels, fluffy dressing gowns and a sumptuous hand-made draped canopy. The yurt has a mini kitchen with refrigerator, washing up and cooking facilities, and dining and lounge areas, all arranged around a central Persian rug and log-burner. A breakfast hamper is provided for you on arrival.
Outside Gaia’s Hideaway you’ll find a generous decking area with a gas
barbecue for alfresco dining, and a red cedar wood-fired hot-tub for you to
enjoy a tranquil stay amidst the trees, natural hedges and wildlife. When you open your front door in the morning,
you’ll hear nothing but birdsong.
Family-friendly and dog-friendly
Your children and dogs are very welcome at Upper Hurst Farm. There is a large mown area in a 4.5 acre field adjacent to the camping field where children can play safely, and it’s kitted out with football posts, swings and slides.
Your dogs can be walked safely around the perimeter of this field too. Dogs are permitted off the lead if there are no children and no other dogs present. There are also many suitable dog walks into the surrounding countryside directly from the site.
Upper Hurst Farm also has regular ‘Meet the Pony’ sessions, where they will introduce their ponies to any interested young guests and allow them to help with grooming and mucking out.
Upper Hurst Farm’s environmental commitment
At Upper Hurst Farm they appreciate and respect the beautiful area in which they live. Because of this, the ethos of the site is nature-based and they encourage biodiversity in their fields and hedgerows. The majority of energy is provided through sustainable methods.
Upper Hurst Farm has been awarded the coveted Environmental Quality Mark in recognition of their ongoing commitment to the environment, their staff and to supporting the local economy.

Check out one of our customer’s post-lockdown camping experiences at our site 💚 this is exactly why we didn’t close our facilities or enforce other measures - people need a break from the dreaded Covid and we are proud to be able to provide them with that 😁
Connecting with nature is undervalued, it really helps you to lose yourself and forget what’s happening in the ‘real world’ 🌷
Reviews like this are why we do what we do 🥰
Amy & Sue xWow!
We did so much in such a short time! We walked, got lost but found rivers and stepping stones, fields, dodged working Tractors, found ice cream shops and cheese toasties, ponds and ducks to feed, caves and nice people!
I am exhausted 😊 and much much happier than when I left. The out door time, the miles of walking, the rain, the wind, the sunshine, the grass, the muscle ache.. They're so good for the heart. I have really not been enjoying this time we're living in, this new change has caused me distress but just a short time away camping felt so *normal*.. It has made me feel so positive, now I want a campsite!! 😁😁😁
How are you? Have you been camping recently.. I recommend it.
