Wooley Pingle is a luxury, brand new Shepherd’s Hut in Bonsall near Matlock, with fabulous views over the surrounding Derbyshire countryside. When you arrive at Wooley Pingle, you’ll charmed by this wonderful little Shepherd’s Hut, with its fantastic elevated position and its stunning surroundings! As you step inside, you will be welcomed by the inviting living space, which has been carefully designed and decorated using calming tones, with colourful touches, creating a bright and airy, yet tranquil and cosy, retreat.
Wooley Pingle has been fully insulated with sheep’s wool, making it warm and cosy all year round. However, for cooler days there is a wood burner, perfect for snuggling in front of after a day exploring this wonderful area.

However, for those who prefer to dine out, don’t worry, just down the lane from Wooley Pingle is a fabulous village pub serving food and a lovely tea room, who rustle up a fantastic breakfast. (Not to mention the numerous pubs and cafes at nearby Matlock, Matlock Bath and Cromford!)
The sleeping space is so sweet and cleverly designed. The comfortable double cabin style bed has Egyptian cotton bedding, and is close to the roaring wood burner, providing the most cosy, romantic space. There is handy under-bed storage for clothing and a quirky table that can double up as a little dining table, or a useful bedside table.
As you would expect, Wooley Pingle’s bathroom is equally as impressive with power shower, sink, toilet and complimentary toiletries.
Directly next to the shepherd’s hut, is a handy little drying shed which is heated in winter, perfect for drying off any wet walking boots and coats. In here you will also find a selection of provisions and an honesty box.
The outside space at Wooley Pingle is something very special. Wooley Pingle gets its name from the field in which it was built, surrounded by countryside on all four sides, with views in every direction. The elevated position provides stunning views over the surrounding countryside and it’s the perfect place to sit out with a coffee in a morning or to enjoy a relaxing drink and barbecue in the evening.
To the front of Wooley Pingle is a lovely meadow field full of pretty flowers and fauna, purposely planted to attract wildlife. There are also bird feeders here, so you can sit and admire an array of wild birds whilst relaxing, taking in the views, and absorbing the peace and quiet this little Shepherd’s Hut has to offer.
The rural location means that the night skies are magical, ideal for sunsets and star gazing, which can be enjoyed on the outdoor seating, around the warmth of the firepit, with pretty nightlights, giving a special evening glow.

Wooley Pingle is situated in the pretty village of Bonsall just two miles from Matlock Bath. Bonsall itself is a lovely old mining village, renowned for its clusters of pretty cottages set along peaceful country lanes, all surrounded by beautiful countryside. Just as you’d hope from a traditional Derbyshire village, there are two great village pubs serving food, as well as a lovely tea room, who serve up hearty breakfasts, scrumptious cakes, afternoon teas, and other tasty dishes.
The Limestone Way, a 43-mile trail running through the heart of the Peak District from Castleton to Rocester, passes right through Bonsall, making Wooley Pingle the perfect place for hikers to stop off en route, or to explore part of the route during their stay. There are many other footpaths and cycling routes from the door at Wooley Pingle – ideal for those who like to park the car up and explore the area on foot or by bike. For those who wish to cycle, the High Peak Trail can also be easily reached, and Carsington Water, with excellent cycle paths. If you don’t have your own bikes, cycle hire is available just 5 miles from Wooley Pingle.
Less than 2 miles from Wooley Pingle is the delightful village of Cromford, famous for its industrial heritage, which can be discovered at Cromford Mill, now a UNSECO World Heritage Site. Here you will also find small selection of independent shops, cafes and pubs. The Cromford Canal is a Site of Special Scientific Interest which can be enjoyed on its 5 mile towpath from Cromford to Ambergate, where you will see an abundance of wildlife, including dragonflies, moorhens and water voles.
Wooley Pingle is also just 3 miles from the town of Matlock Bath, the landlocked ‘seaside town’, which has been a tourist destination for hundreds of years. Shops, cafes, bars, chip shops and arcades line the street, nestled in a limestone gorge with beautiful riverside walks, attracting visitors back year upon year.
There are great access roads into the Peak District National Park too, with many popular walks such as Robin Hood’s Stride, and popular villages such as Youlgreave, Winster and Elton, only a few miles away.
