About Curlew Cottage

A barn conversion of mellow local stone, Curlew Cottage has been lovingly restored to provide high quality holiday accommodation in the heart of the Peak District countryside.  Situated in the little hamlet of Windmill, on the edge of the pretty village of Great Hucklow, this delightful Peak District cottage is a haven of peace and quiet.  

The beautiful interior of Curlew Cottage sets it apart, with luxurious fittings highlighting the attention to detail.  Cosy and warm, it makes the perfect base for exploring this stunning area, or an ideal retreat in which to simply relax and soak up the country air.

Downstairs at Curlew Cottage you’ll find a spacious lounge/dining room with a wood-burning stove, beamed ceiling, stylish lighting, dining table, 32 inch flat screen Freeview TV and DVD.  There’s also free WiFi internet access too. 

The lovely kitchen has quality fitted units and contains everything you might need for cooking up a feast, including a hob, oven, microwave, fridge and washing machine.  

Upstairs, the luxurious double bedroom has a French cast iron bed and 28 inch freeview TV. 

The beautifully fitted bathroom has a French cast iron bath, separate shower and W.C.  Linen and towels are provided.

Storage heating, power and an initial supply of fuel for the stove are included. 

Outside there is a gravelled patio with furniture.  

Parking for one car is available on the patio and there are lots of other spaces on the very quiet lane immediately outside.

Curlew Cottage is Dog Friendly!

One dog is welcome at Curlew Cottage by arrangement for only a small additional charge, although please keep him or her in the downstairs rooms.

For the benefit of all guests, smoking is not permitted inside the cottage please.  

No lit candles in the cottage please. 

Due to the age of the building, we regret that access for people with disabilities may be difficult.

Reduced rates are available for golf at the local course 10 minutes’ drive away.  Please ask for more information when booking.

Curlew Cottage Location 

Curlew Cottage is located in the sleepy hamlet of Windmill, on the edge of the village of Great Hucklow, in the heart of the Peak District.  The Peak District is world renowned for its natural beauty and this area is just perfect for those who love the countryside.  There are numerous walking and cycling routes nearby, and this area is also famed for its rock climbing.  

Curlew Cottage lies on the border of the magnificent gritstone landscapes of the Dark Peak, and the rolling, gentle, limestone dales of the White Peak, so you’re treated to a huge diversity in the countryside.

From the door of the cottage you can wander along the quiet country lanes into Great Hucklow and enjoy a delicious meal at the 17th Century Queen Anne Inn, or for a more adventurous walk you can climb to the top of Hucklow Edge, have a pint in the Barrel Inn at Bretton, and enjoy the incredible views from the highest pub in the Peak District.  

A short walk or bike ride further on takes you to the famous ‘plague village’ of Eyam, with its fascinating, inspiring history.  Or you could walk into the large village of Tideswell and explore its magnificent church, known as the ‘Cathedral of the Peak’.

Only a short drive away you’ll find the ancient Peak District town of Bakewell, famed for its delicious Bakewell Puddings!  While you’re in the area, make sure you also explore the stunning country estates of Haddon Hall and Chatsworth House.
