Pub, Pizzeria & Campsite

The Bull I’ Th’ Thorn in Hurdlow blends tradition with contemporary and English with Italian, to create a wonderful country pub with an excellent pizzeria, and its very own campsite with grass pitches and bell tents! All of this, right in the heart of the Peak District National Park, surrounded by beautiful countryside, just a stone’s throw from the High Peak Trail.

Inside The Bull I’ Th’ Thorn pub you’ll be greeted with a warm welcome and you’ll find original features that have been lovingly restored, such as rugged timberwork and large stone fireplaces with roaring fires. With lots of cosy corners it’s the ideal place to relax with a perfectly poured pint, a glass of good wine, or a warming coffee. The bar is stocked with local beers, ciders and ales, together with an excellent wine menu and spirits, not forgetting refreshing cocktails!

The contemporary pizzeria at The Bull I’ Th’ Thorn has a cool vibe! The relaxed atmosphere makes a great place for friends and family to gather, to enjoy great food and good times. The stylish booths with TVs are great for catching up on the latest sports events, and table football is sure to keep the kids entertained.

Likewise, outside there’s a lovely beer garden, with a fab play area, which again the kids will love, while you soak up the sunshine and the wonderful views that surround The Bull I’ Th’ Thorn.

The Taste of Italy in the Heart of the Peak District

The handmade wood-fired pizzas are The Bull I’ Th’ Thorn’s pride and joy! Prepared by their expert chef, they use traditional methods and fresh ingredients to create mouthwatering pizzas. With a variety of meat and veggie toppings, there’s sure to be something to suit all tastes. Choose from traditional Margarita, family favourite Pepperoni, or something completely different like ‘Ay Up Me Duck’.

There are also delicious sandwiches served on The Bull I’ Th’ Thorn’s very own pizza bread, such as Chargrilled Chicken or Smashed Avocado, and a great collection of burgers and hotdogs. Perfect for gathering with friends, there’s also a choice of sharing platters such as Buffalo Wings and Nacho Fries. 

Keen to keep the little ones happy, The Bull I’ Th’ Thorn also have a great kids menu, with their usual favourites and the same great pizzas, just made a little smaller. They’ll love it, not to mention a delicious selection of moreish desserts.

For the early risers and campers, breakfast is also available Saturdays and Sundays from 8.30am – 11.30am.

Campsite and Bell Tents

The Bull I’ Th’ Thorn’s spacious campsite is just as perfect as the pub. With 32 large grass pitches, 10 of which have electric hook up, it’s the ideal base to enjoy this stunning area of the Peak District National Park. For those who don’t have their own tent, no problem, there are empty bell tents with room for four people and two furry friends, with a fire pit and picnic bench, so you can simply bring your sleeping bag and pillows and enjoy rural camping at its finest. (Please note, the campsite doesn’t accept caravans or large motorhomes. Camper vans up the size of a VW Transporter are very welcome).

No cooking gear, no worries, because The Bull I’ Th’ Thorn is open for breakfast at weekends from  8.30am to 11.30am, ready and waiting to rustle up their fabulous Bulli Breakfast, Veggie Breakfast, or Bulli or Veggie Baps. So you’ll be fuelled and ready to head out for fun-filled adventures, and of course you’ll have the pub and pizzeria to return to at the end of the day.

The campsite also has spotless toilets and hot showers, together with a washing-up area and three drinking water stations dotted around the site. Don’t worry if you’ve forgotten some essentials, there’s even an onsite camping shop too.

With uninterrupted views, The Bull I’ Th’ Thorn’s campsite is the perfect place to wake in the morning listening to the birdsong and relax in the evening watching spectacular sunsets, with a pizza in one hand and a beer in the other!

Excellent Location

The Bull I’ Th’ Thorn is just a stone’s throw from the High Peak Trail, with easy access to the Tissington Trail as well at Parsley Hay. Here you can hire bikes and even tandems, so if you fancy cycling or strolling along one of these traffic-free routes, it’s the ideal place to stay or visit en-route! 

Hurdlow is also central to many fabulous towns such as Buxton and Bakewell, pretty villages such as Longnor and Flagg, and lots of popular walking routes.

Monyash is just 1.5 miles away, where you can enjoy picturesque river trails through Lathkill Dale. The popular village of Hartington with its famous cheese shop and other independent shops is just 4 miles away and can be partially reached via the High Peak Trail. From here, you can enjoy another gorgeous walk via Beresford and Biggin Dale along the beautiful River Dove.
