Peak District Walks for Children

At Let’s Go Peak District we believe that it’s hugely important to get the younger generation enjoying the great outdoors, and the Peak District offers fantastic opportunities to spark their interest. The more that children can learn to appreciate and love the countryside, the better it is for all of us; a connection with nature not only improves their physical and mental health but also paves the way for a lifetime of respect and responsibility for the environment.

How many of us take care of the countryside now because we were handed down a love of our natural surroundings from our parents when we were kids?

Our Peak District Walks for Children are written specifically with kids in mind. The routes are shorter for little legs (although not necessarily easier, kids love to scramble!) and there are plenty of kid-friendly distractions along the way, including caves to explore, trees to climb, streams to paddle in and even rope swings to play on. We have a great selection of suggestions for you here, from the mysterious woodlands at Padley Gorge to the heights of Robin Hood’s Stride. So for a Peak District Day Out that all the family will remember, pack up a picnic and pick a route!

A very important word! Please set the best example for your kids: take all your litter away with you and remember that barbecues and fires are not permitted in the Peak District. Also please bear in mind that the Peak District is a natural environment with all the natural hazards that come with that. Take extra care when climbing on rocks or playing near water. Grown-ups, please make sure all children in your care are supervised. Wear waterproof clothes if it’s rainy and sunscreen if it’s sunny. All walks are undertaken at your own risk.

Remember, we provide the walk, you provide the common sense!
