Chris Nowell (Peak Photography Project)

After completing eight years in the British Army finishing tours of Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan. I was left registered blind after a rocket attack on my forward operating base in Helmand province Afghanistan. Fully in my right eye also losing the peripherals in my left. As well as this I suffered neurological memory loss as well as the ability to walk. Luckily due to my positive attitude and support by my family and blind veterans UK I was able to pick myself up again.

Now I give back to Blind Veterans UK supporting the charity on its annual photography course at Llandudno North Wales. However on a daily basis I am enjoying the hills tors and peaks of the Peak District National Park. Plus the glorious Derbyshire Dales throughout the year. Of course being blind out in a rural environment has its challenges. But every bump, every scratch, slip, fall or twisted ankle is a reminder of the positive attitude.

I have an amazing wife and three incredible sons. It’s to this I owe the majority of my recovery. Being surrounded by the best people can be your best rehabilitation available.

We live in the peaceful town of Dronfield, Derbyshire in between Sheffield and Chesterfield. Here I have images on display in local bistro / cafes. Also I have had photos featured in the towns monthly magazine the Dronfield Eye.

I have been very lucky reaching National magazines and newspapers, and worldwide online magazines.

I hope you enjoy the escapism through my photography just as much as I do
