About Haddon Hall
Haddon Hall
Haddon Hall is acclaimed as one of the most beautiful medieval manor houses in the whole of England, and rightly so. With more than 900 years of history, it's one of the oldest houses in the country and one of the few to have remained in the ownership of the same family for its entire existence; it is still the family home of Lord and Lady Edward Manners and their children. Inside, its perfectly preserved rooms are a time capsule, with much of the content unchanged for centuries.

Exploring around Haddon Hall
Haddon Hall sits beside the A6 between Bakewell and Rowsley, making it easy to combine a visit with exploring this particularly attractive part of the Derbyshire Peak District. Bakewell is only around two miles away, so the historic market town is the obvious companion to a day at Haddon.
Allowing some extra time for Bakewell gives you the chance to wander around the town centre, River Wye and independent shops rather than simply driving through on your way to or from the Hall. In the other direction, Rowsley provides a useful gateway towards Chatsworth and the Derwent Valley.
There is countryside all around Haddon, although visitors should be aware that there are no public rights of way through Haddon Hall's private parkland itself. If walking forms part of your day, it's worth planning your route separately rather than assuming you'll be able to walk through the estate.
Haddon's position also makes it a good choice for a day that mixes history with the wider Peak District landscape. You can spend several hours exploring the Hall and gardens and still have time afterwards for Bakewell, a nearby village or a short walk.
