Exploring around Classic Cottages

Classic Cottages offers a collection of self-catering holiday cottages for visitors looking to make the Peak District their base for a short break or longer stay. Although we've used Bakewell as a central point for this listing, the accommodation itself isn't confined to the town, so it's worth exploring the wider collection when deciding which part of the Peak District you'd most like to discover.

Bakewell makes a useful geographical starting point. Sitting in the heart of the White Peak, the historic market town gives easy access to places such as Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Ashford-in-the-Water and the Monsal Trail. Classic Cottages currently has Peak District properties in the wider Bakewell area, including accommodation near the town and around Litton Mill.

Where you choose to stay can make a real difference to the character of your holiday. The limestone landscapes of the White Peak are ideal for exploring traditional villages, riverside paths and dales, while travelling north brings you towards the gritstone edges, reservoirs and open moorland of the Dark Peak. If walking is part of your plans, have a look through our Peak District Walks for ideas ranging from shorter countryside routes to much bigger days out.

A self-catering stay also gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace. You might spend one day walking or cycling, another discovering Bakewell and the surrounding villages, and another visiting one of the Peak District's historic houses or attractions.

The important thing with Classic Cottages is therefore not to think of this listing as one particular place to stay. Use it as a starting point for finding accommodation in the area, then build your Peak District break around the landscape, villages, walks and attractions closest to the cottage you choose.
