Exploring around Scrivener’s Books
Lose yourself amongst five floors of books at Scrivener’s Books, a wonderfully characterful second-hand bookshop on Buxton High Street. With around 40,000 books filling its shelves, it's the sort of place where a quick browse can easily turn into an hour or two of discovering everything from local history and travel to fiction, art, children's books and rare or antiquarian finds.
Once you've found your next read, step outside and continue exploring Buxton. Head down towards the historic Crescent and St Ann's Well, wander through the Pavilion Gardens and admire Buxton Opera House, or simply take your time discovering the independent shops and impressive architecture around the town centre.
If you'd like to add some countryside to your day, Poole's Cavern and Grin Low are nearby, where you can combine an underground adventure with a woodland walk up towards Solomon's Temple. Scrivener's is also a particularly good stop on a wet-weather day in Buxton — although book lovers may find five floors of shelves reason enough to stay inside whatever the forecast.
