Exploring around The Scotsman’s Pack
The Scotsman’s Pack is particularly well placed for exploring Hathersage and the surrounding Hope Valley. The village centre is close by, while the gritstone landscapes around Stanage Edge rise above Hathersage and offer some of the best-known walking country in this part of the Peak District.
It makes a useful starting or finishing point for a day on foot, with routes around Hathersage as well as longer walks towards Stanage, North Lees and the surrounding moors. Padley Gorge, Grindleford and the wider Hope Valley are also within easy reach if you're planning a longer day exploring the area.
Hathersage itself is worth allowing time for, so a visit doesn't necessarily need to be centred entirely around a walk. The village and surrounding countryside work particularly well together for a full day exploring this part of the Peak District.
The Hope Valley railway also makes Hathersage a useful place from which to explore without relying entirely on the car. That gives you the option of combining a walk with neighbouring villages and returning by train rather than having to plan everything as a circular route.
