Over Haddon
Over Haddon is a small but very picturesque Peak District village, set peacefully amidst the rolling fields of the White Peak and located on a hill overlooking the beautiful Lathkill Dale.
The village of Over Haddon is full of twisty lanes lined with pretty stone cottages. It boasts two churches and a wonderful pub, The Lathkil Hotel, but otherwise the main attraction of the village has to be those glorious views that stretch for miles.
There is no shortage of lovely walks from the village of Over Haddon down to beautiful Lathkill Dale, and the routes down are all well sign-posted. From Lathkill Dale the River Lathkill runs to join with the River Wye.
Over Haddon is also within easy walking distance of the pretty market town of Bakewell and the stunning country estate of Haddon Hall, the latter from which it takes its name.
Close to Lathkill Dale is Conksbury, a deserted medieval village. Conksbury was already a recorded settlement in Anglo-Saxon times and was noted in the Domesday Book of 1086, then known as Cranchesberie. It was one of seven outlying hamlets of the royal manor of Bakewell, and is likely to have been inhabited until the 16th Century.
The remains today are well preserved and include houses and a medieval mill, as well as a road, a bridge, walls and fences.
