Exploring around The Charleston
The Charleston sits in Rutland Square in the centre of Bakewell, putting it in a very different setting from many of the rural pubs and hotels found across the Peak District. This is somewhere that fits naturally into a day exploring the town, whether you're visiting Bakewell for its independent shops, historic streets, markets or simply a wander beside the River Wye.
Its central location means there's no need to build a separate journey around your visit. Bakewell is compact enough to explore on foot, and it is worth allowing time to leave the busiest shopping streets and discover some of the quieter lanes, courtyards and riverside corners that give the town much of its character.
The surrounding area also makes Bakewell a useful base for exploring further. Chatsworth and Haddon Hall are both nearby, while the Monsal Trail provides an easy way to introduce some walking or cycling into a longer stay. Ashford-in-the-Water is only a short distance away and opens up further possibilities towards Monsal Dale and the limestone landscapes of the White Peak.
The Charleston itself brings a distinctive 1920s-inspired bar and restaurant to the centre of this traditional Peak District market town. It is part of Longbow Venues, whose collection ranges from village pubs and boutique accommodation to restaurants across some very different Peak District locations.
For visitors, The Charleston's particular advantage is being right at the heart of Bakewell. It works naturally as part of the day rather than simply somewhere to drive to, giving you the opportunity to explore the town before settling in for food or drinks afterwards.
