Exploring around The Ashford Arms
The Ashford Arms puts you right in the centre of Ashford-in-the-Water, one of the Peak District's best-known limestone villages and an excellent starting point for exploring the White Peak on foot.
The village is compact, picturesque and very easy to wander around. The River Wye runs through Ashford-in-the-Water, and its much-photographed Sheepwash Bridge is one of the area's familiar landmarks. Beyond the village streets, footpaths quickly lead into open countryside, making this a particularly good location if you want to combine a meal or overnight stay with a proper walk.
One of our favourite routes starts virtually on the doorstep. The Ashford-in-the-Water via Monsal Dale walk is a six-mile circular route that climbs out of the village through classic White Peak countryside towards Monsal Head. It then crosses the famous viaduct before following woodland and the River Wye back towards Ashford.
There is plenty more nearby if you're staying for longer. Bakewell is only a short distance away, while Monsal Dale and the Monsal Trail open up further opportunities for walking and cycling. Head deeper into the White Peak and villages such as Monyash provide access to another network of limestone dales and paths.
The Ashford Arms is part of Longbow Venues, connecting it with a collection of pubs, restaurants and accommodation across the Peak District area. Its particular strength is its village location. You can enjoy Ashford-in-the-Water at a slower pace, head straight out onto the footpaths and return without having to build the whole day around driving between destinations.
