Exploring around The Peacock at Rowsley

The Peacock at Rowsley occupies an excellent position for exploring the central Peak District, with the village sitting where the Rivers Wye and Derwent meet and some of Derbyshire's best-known historic estates only a short journey away.

Rowsley itself is worth exploring before heading further afield. The village has long-standing connections with the Haddon Estate, and riverside paths and surrounding footpaths provide opportunities to discover the countryside without immediately reaching for the car. You can read more in our guide to Rowsley.

Haddon Hall is particularly close, making it an obvious addition to a stay here, while Chatsworth lies in the other direction. Bakewell is also within easy reach, giving you a choice between historic houses, a traditional market town and the surrounding countryside.

Walking possibilities are plentiful. The wider area connects into the landscapes around Chatsworth and Edensor, while the limestone country of the White Peak is close enough for longer days out. Cycling is another excellent option, with the traffic-free Monsal Trail accessible from nearby Hassop Station.

The Peacock itself is a 17th-century Grade II-listed manor house on the Haddon Estate, so its character feels particularly connected to the history of this part of Derbyshire. It is also part of Longbow Venues, bringing it together with a collection of distinctive places to eat, drink and stay across the Peak District.

For a longer break, Rowsley's central position is the real advantage. Bakewell, Chatsworth and Haddon are close, but there are also plenty of opportunities simply to walk out into the surrounding countryside and discover a quieter side of the area.
