As the name suggests, The Rambler Inn is the perfect spot to rest and relax after a hard day’s walking. Located in beautiful Edale, at the very start of the Pennine Way and the gateway to Kinder Scout, the Peak District’s highest point, it has a long and enduring association with hikers of all ages.
The bar and restaurant is welcoming and warm, with roaring fires in every room. The extensive range of home-cooked food is served all day until late, with a great choice to suit everyone, including plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. The Rambler Inn is famous for its fish and chips but you’ll find everything on the menu from burgers and pies to salads and steaks.
There’s also a wide selection of cask ales, including many from local breweries, as well as fine wines and spirits.
On sunny days the lovely garden makes the perfect spot for al fresco dining, drinking and socialising, looking up at the wonderful rolling hills all around.
The Rambler Inn is dog-friendly! Your muddy boots and muddy paws are always welcome here, and your four-legged friends will love resting their paws in the cosy bar after a day exploring in the countryside.

If you’d like to explore this beautiful area before or after your stay at The Rambler Inn, try our Edale and Mam Tor Walk! There’s no question that this circular walk is challenging in places, but it shows off some of the most spectacular views in the Peak District and definitely repays the effort. For a true countryside day out that gives you a real taste of this part of the world, it’s hard to beat.
You follow the Pennine Way out of the pretty village of Edale, with stunning views all across the Edale Valley to Mam Tor, and then follow farm trails to the lovely hamlet of Upper Booth. From Upper Booth you climb up on to Rushup Edge and along the ridge to the summit of Mam Tor, all the time with the most amazing views to both sides of you, of the Hope Valley in one direction and back across the Edale Valley in the other. From Mam Tor you walk along the iconic Great Ridge to Hollins Cross, and then down on hill trails and country lanes back to Edale.
