Anglers Rest is a dog-friendly, family-run Peak District pub, located on the banks of the picturesque River Wye, in the very beautiful village of Millers Dale. Six miles from Hassop Cycle Hire along the Monsal Trail and perfectly positioned on many popular walking routes, Anglers Rest is the ideal place to stop off for a drink or bite to eat whilst walking or cycling in the area. This gem of a pub has a great selection of well-kept real ales and is renowned for its welcoming service and delicious, home-cooked, hearty pub meals. The bar and dining room at Anglers Rest each have lots of lovely features, such as exposed timber beams and wood-burning stoves – a welcoming sight after a wintery walk in the countryside, which your dog will enjoy snuggling in front of too!
The outside space in the riverside garden is so special. Is there anything nicer than sitting by the side of a river on a sunny day, listing to the sound of water and watching the birdlife that it attracts?! There are plenty of picnic benches for you to sit, relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

For those wanting to stay a while longer in these beautiful surroundings, Anglers Rest has a fabulous dog-friendly, self-contained apartment. The apartment has its own entrance, so you can come and go as you please. Inside you will find open plan living accommodation with sofa, dining table and kitchenette. When you’ve got a pub next door serving delicious meals each day – it’s all you’ll need! There is also a double bedroom with ensuite bathroom.
The location of Anglers Rest, right on the banks of the River Wye in Millers Dale, is simply idyllic. Millers Dale itself is a picturesque village with a cluster of houses in a wooded limestone valley. Lots of the landscape surrounding Millers Dale is preserved as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and nearby Monk’s Dale is a national nature reserve famed for its natural woodland and many species of wildflowers.
There are many popular walking routes that pass by, or close to, Anglers Rest, making it very popular with walkers and visitors exploring this beautiful area. Try the scenic route starting from Tideswell, via Litton Mill, before following the pretty riverside path, through to Millers Dale. Anglers Rest is conveniently approximately halfway on this six mile walk. Tranquil walks along the River Wye can also be enjoyed from Cressbrook via Water-Cum-Jolly, or from the little village of Wormhill.
The Monsal Trail is just a couple of minutes’ walk from Anglers Rest. This 8.5-mile traffic-free route runs from nearby Chee Dale to the fabulous market town of Bakewell, passing through beautiful countryside. Bikes can be hired from nearby Blackwell Mill Cycle Hire, which is just a 10-minute drive away, then you can stop off at Anglers Rest on your way along the Monsal Trail, and again on the way back! Or why not hire bikes from Monsal Cycle Hire in Hassop, have a leisurely 6 mile ride along the trail to Millers Dale, via the fabulous Monsal Head, and stop off for lunch as your halfway treat before heading back?!
The River Wye is also very popular with fly fishers, and renowned for its wild brown and rainbow trout. Visitors travel from all over the world to fish these waters, and day tickets can be purchased nearby.
