The Duke at Burbage, on the edge of Buxton, offers a friendly welcome to locals, visitors, families, walkers and, of course, your four-legged friends! The Duke has a relaxed vibe where dogs will be fussed, muddy boots accommodated, and everybody welcomed! It’s a great place to stop off while enjoying the stunning surrounding countryside, many popular walking routes and fabulous nearby attractions such as Solomons Temple and Pooles Cavern.
Serving breakfast, lunch, coffee and cake, and evening meals, The Duke is the perfect place to pop in whatever time of day and whatever the weather, with their beer garden being a great place to stop for a refreshing pint!
A Proper Lineup at the Bar
The bar at The Duke is well-stocked, offering an excellent selection of real ales, including local guest ales, alongside popular lagers and beers. In addition, the shelves are stocked with a great range of spirits, and the fridges are loaded with a great choice of wines, craft lagers and soft drinks.
For those who prefer a tea or coffee, The Duke also serves high-quality hot drinks, including premium coffee sourced from Buxton Coffee Roasters, which go down a treat with their selection of homemade cakes. It’s the kind of bar where you can easily sit with a newspaper and a flat white in the morning or pull up a stool for a pint of cask ale at night!
Outside you’ll find a style beer garden, with under-cover outdoor seating. The perfect place to enjoy a beer or glass of fizz on a sunny day.

The kitchens at The Duke focus entirely on delicious, home-cooked food, offering hearty pub classics, all home-cooked using fresh, local, seasonal ingredients. There’s a great selection of menus, together with daily specials boards too!
Breakfast
Available on Saturdays and Sundays from 9.30am to 11.30am, the breakfast menu is a great way to fuel up for the weekend.
You can go for their classic full English, “The Grand Old Duke”, or lighter options such as breakfast cobs, Derbyshire Oatcakes, or a toasted teacake.

Lunch
The lunch menu is designed to be flexible, featuring a lighter selection, served Monday-Friday, 12.00pm – 2.30pm, alongside the more substantial main meals.
You can choose from a range of fresh ciabattas, or a ploughman’s, through to classic pub lunches like pie or quiche of the day. It’s ideal for a quick midday stop when you are halfway through a walk, or for a more substantial two or three course lunch!

Dinner
The evening menu features all the favourites you’d expect from a local village pub!
Choose from starters such as homemade soup of the day or a black pudding stack! For main, you can enjoy hearty dishes such as lamb rump or homemade lasagne, and a fab selection of burgers! There is also a great selection of veggie options too. They also have an excellent dessert menu, so try to save room for one of their scrumptious puddings such as crumble or lemon and elderflower sponge.

Sunday Roasts
The Sunday roasts at The Duke are incredibly popular! In addition to some of the usual menu, you can enjoy a hearty Sunday roast featuring a choice of quality meats, including tender roast beef and pork, served with all the traditional trimmings, a huge crispy Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, fresh seasonal vegetables, and proper, rich gravy!

Quiz Nights, Coffee Mornings, and Special Events
The Duke hosts regular weekly events that keep the place buzzing throughout the year.
Every Tuesday morning from 10.00am to 12.00pm, they run their weekly coffee mornings, an informal gathering where you can enjoy a chat over a mug of Buxton Coffee Roasters coffee and a slice of homemade cake.
On Thursday evenings from 8.00pm, The Duke hosts its popular weekly quiz night, a fun, competitive night to test the knowledge of locals and visitors.
In addition, The Duke regularly hosts vibrant event nights like Abba tribute acts, Caribbean-themed food and music nights, and glam affairs like an Ascot Ladies Night. These evenings fill up incredibly fast, so the team always recommends checking their official social media channels to see what is coming up next and to book a space before the tickets disappear.
A Gateway to Local Walks and Caverns
The Duke’s location in Burbage puts you in a prime spot for exploring the natural wonders surrounding the nearby spa town of Buxton. You can park up, enjoy a meal, and head straight out into the surrounding countryside and famous landmarks.
Just a 10-minute walk takes you to Poole’s Cavern, a spectacular limestone show cavern where you can take a guided tour through ancient crystal chambers. The surrounding country park also features the Go Ape high ropes course if you are looking for an adrenaline rush.
From the cavern woods, it is a straightforward walk up Grin Low Hill to reach Solomon’s Temple. This Victorian fortified tower sits on the hilltop and offers panoramic views across the whole of Buxton and the rolling hills beyond.
If you are looking for a longer walk, the stunning trails of the Goyt Valley are just a five-minute drive away. This area is fantastic for waterside walks around the twin reservoirs or hiking up the old railway tracks.
The Duke serves as the perfect start, midway break, or rewarding end to any day out in the Peak District!
