Where’s the best place to stay in the Peak District?

It really depends on what you’re after. Love big walks and dramatic scenery? The Dark Peak around the Hope Valley and Edale puts gritstone edges and endless trails right on your doorstep. Prefer rolling hills, quaint villages and cosy pubs? Head to the White Peak; think Ashbourne, Bakewell, Hartington, Tideswell and the pretty hamlets dotted along the Dove Valley. Can’t decide? You honestly can’t go wrong wherever you base yourself.

What’s the quietest area for a relaxing break?

The south-west corner near the Manifold Valley, the quieter fringes of the White Peak around Monyash and Youlgreave, or the far northern edges of the Dark Peak are featured in our Peak District Borders collection. These are the spots where you’re more likely to share a footpath with sheep than crowds.
