Church Farm Cottage (Sleeps 4)

Our 4 Star Gold Award-winning cottage originally formed part of our main farmhouse, which is Grade II listed, dating from around the 16th Century, and was featured in the Period Living and Traditional Home magazine.

Church Farm Cottage has been lovingly restored and beautifully converted to a very high standard. It is full of character with many original features of interest. As you enter the main hall there is a stone flagged floor and beamed ceiling. To the left is a fitted kitchen/dining room (with fridge, freezer, dishwasher, electric cooker, microwave, etc.), also with a beamed ceiling, a gritstone fireplace, window seat and a quarry-tiled floor. Off the hall is the second bathroom with a shower cubicle, hand basin and toilet. The L-shaped lounge has a full-beamed ceiling and sandstone fireplace, inset with an old black range for cosy open fires.

There are polished floorboards throughout, covered with richly coloured rugs, which add to the charm and tradition. The main bedroom includes a king-size canopy bed and wonderful open views across the surrounding countryside. The second bedroom has two good-sized 3’6″ single beds. Both bedrooms are decorated to a high standard. The main bathroom consists of a bath, hand basin and toilet. The cottage has a secure private cottage garden.

Our surroundings

We believe in farming our land in the traditional, old fashioned way, as it has been managed for generations, and Church Farm has been an organic farm for more than a decade. Wildflowers still bloom in our lush meadows and our animals are all treated with respect and love. It is very important to us to protect and preserve the environment and wildlife on the farm for the future generations who should be lucky enough to live here.

The wonderful landscape of the Peak District National Park, and Dovedale in particular, is a paradise for walkers, cyclists and all outdoor enthusiasts. There are innumerable beautiful walking trails in the area, many of which start right from the doorstep of the cottages.

There are also miles of cycling trails, along country lanes and former railway lines such as the Tissington Trail, High Peak Trail, Monsal Trail and Manifold Way. There are cycle hire stations at Mapleton (near Ashbourne), Parsley Hay (near Hartington) and Middleton Top (near Wirksworth).

The area is also wonderful for horse riding and the bridleways and country lanes across the Derbyshire Dales offer superb riding with spectacular views.

There really is no better place to unwind and explore the beauty of the Peak District National Park, all the time knowing that you have a luxurious cottage to return to, and a cosy fire to relax in front of.
