There are three barns to choose from: Winnow Barn is a beautiful house sleeping 8, Winnow Stables is a dog-friendly barn sleeping 4, and Winnow Nook is a romantic retreat for 2! The peaceful location is the ideal place to enjoy this relaxed country lifestyle, with many footpaths passing right by the door, leading to some of the most scenic gems in the Peak District, including the famous Dovedale Stepping Stones. Or simply unwind by day on the patio, visiting the animals, and by night relax in the wood-fired hot tub, stargazing at the uninterrupted night sky!

Dating back to the 1700s, these wonderful farm buildings have been lovingly converted to create the most sophisticated holiday accommodation. Pairing original features with modern luxuries and thoughtful finishing touches, Winnow Barns have been transformed into three delightful country retreats where comfort is paramount and relaxation is guaranteed!

Each of the barns have thick stone walls, original exposed brickwork, rugged timber beams, and local limestone, creating the most charming, characterful spaces, each with the added luxury of wood-burning stoves.

The barns also benefit from superfast broadband, full central heating, secure bike storage and welcome muddy boots! So, whether you’re planning to explore the beautiful landscape that surrounds Winnow Barns by foot, cycle down the charming country lanes and enjoy nearby cycling trails, or just relax and restore, then Winnow Barns are for you!

Winnow Barn – Sleeps 8 – Perfect for Families

The largest of the properties is Winnow Barn itself, a fabulous space with upside down accommodation, with open plan living and king bedroom with en- suite on the first floor enabling guests to make the most of the elevated panoramic views from the upstairs windows.

Here you will be wowed by the high vaulted ceiling, with many original features, creating a bright airy space. There are plenty of comfortable sofas gathered around the wood burning stove and large picture window, the perfect place for relaxing at the end of the day, whilst watching the flat screen TV. There is also a large dining table, and a gleaming kitchen, complete with all modern appliances, including:

Large American fridge/freezer
Dishwasher
Washing machine
Microwave
Large Island

Downstairs, there are three delightful ensuite bedrooms with more characterful features and sympathetic décor. Three of the bedrooms have super comfy, king-sized beds, with the fourth being a super king, which can be split to create two single beds to suit your group’s needs.

Outside there’s a lovely patio area, with garden furniture and a charcoal barbecue, providing the perfect place to soak up the tranquility of Winnow Barn’s stunning surroundings, and enjoy some alfresco dining, day or night. Remember, guests are also able to enjoy the freshwater, wood-fired hot tub too!

Winnow Stables – Sleeps 4 – Dog Friendly

Winnow Stables is the dog-friendly property at Winnow Barns, enabling you to bring along your small well-behaved pooch too! Winnow Stables is all on one level, barring one small step leading up to the two charming bedrooms, with separate shower room.

Winnow Stables has a wonderful bright atmosphere with lots of natural light, complemented by the crisp white furnishings and immaculate kitchen. The open plan living includes plenty of snuggly sofas nestled around the wood-burning stove and flat screen TV. The modern kitchen includes:

Electric oven
Gas hob
Fridge with ice box
Dishwasher
Washing Machine
Microwave

Just up the one step, you will find the two bedrooms – a king sized room and a super king sized room which can be split to create two singles. This makes Winnow Stables ideal for a family of four or two couples travelling together. Each of the rooms come complete with ensuite shower rooms.

As the name suggests, open the stable doors to miles and miles of open countryside which stretches out in front of you, and a patio with garden furniture and barbecue to sit and relax at the end of the day. You’re sure to be welcomed by the local chickens which the children will love to see too! The freshwater wood-fired hot tub is available to hire for guests over 12 years old.

Winnow Nook – Sleeps 2 – Adults Only

Winnow Nook is the most beautiful romantic retreat for two, or a place to escape for a lone traveller looking for the peace and tranquility that Winnow Barns most definitely delivers!

This cosy little hideaway has the same open plan living and more of those characterful features that makes Winnow Barns so special. Snuggle up in front of the roaring wood burning stove whilst watching your favourite TV show on the flat screen TV, or rustle up a meal in the fully equipped kitchen, including:

Gas hobs
Fridge with ice box
Dishwasher
Microwave

Upstairs you’ll find the most gorgeous bedroom with a four-poster bed and an inviting roll top bath in the bedroom itself! For those who prefer a refreshing shower, there is a separate shower in the ensuite too!

Outside there’s a lovely patio area with garden furniture and a charcoal barbecue, so you can sit and enjoy the beautiful views with a morning coffee, or admire the clear night sky from the patio or the freshwater, wood-fired, hot tub which can be hired on request.

Farm Life

Many Peak District holiday cottages offer outdoor space, but Winnow Barns offers something extra special, both near and far! As you look out of the many windows at Winnow Barns you can see miles and miles of lush green meadow fields and rolling hills. Open the doors and you will be rewarded with the relaxing sounds of birdsong and the friendly farm animals that live here. Throw corn to the free-range chickens or hang out with the cheeky goats and donkeys, and in the springtime snuggle up to a newborn baby lamb, some of which may need bottle feeding!

With pretty flower meadows and rolling hills, beautiful views and starry skies, Winnow Barns really are a countryside dream that the owners can’t wait to share with you.

Wood-Fired Hot Tub

The wood-fired hot tub at Winnow Barns is available for all guests to hire and enjoy from April to October. (Over 12s only.) As the hot tub is chemical-free, it is cleaned after each use and refilled with fresh water, so booking is essential. It’s the most relaxing place to soak up the peace and tranquility of the area, and with inbuilt lighting it’s a magical place to stargaze too!

Idyllic Location

Winnow Barns are very special in every way, including their wonderful location!

Located on the edge of the pretty village of Ilam, between the River Manifold and the River Dove, there are many footpaths right from the door, down the charming country lanes and through the lush fields, including walks to the popular Dovedale Stepping Stones and impressive Thor’s Cave. There is a wonderful 6 mile circular route to Dovedale and Ilam that practically goes right by the door.

Ilam itself is just 2 miles away, where you can visit the stunning landscaped gardens and tea room at Ilam Hall, and meander around this picturesque village. Also just 2 miles away are the delightful villages of Thorpe, Milldale and Alstonefield, with pretty country lanes dotted with cottages. For those who prefer to cycle, just 5 miles away is Hulme End in the glorious Manifold Valley, from where you can hire bikes and enjoy a traffic-free cycle along the Manifold Way. For those who would like to browse the shops, Winnow Barns is just 6 miles from the popular village of Hartington and 7 miles away from the delightful town of Ashbourne, with lots of independent shops and cafes.
