Canoeing

Canoeing is a great introduction to the waters, where you can enjoy a peaceful journey along canals and rivers whilst taking in the beautiful views and experiencing the tranquility of nature.

There are three packages available through Rapid Horizons.

3km Journey along the Cromford Canal
Lasting around 2 Hours – Suitable for ages 6+

Enjoy a gentle paddle from Cromford Wharf to High Peak junction and back with experienced guides, which is great for families and newbies, with beautiful scenery and local history. There are cafés at each end of the trail, enabling you to stop off for refreshments before, during or after your journey.

7km Journey along the River Derwent
Lasting around 2 Hours – Suitable for ages 6+

A slightly more adventurous journey down a 7km section of the River Derwent from Darley Dale to Matlock Bath with small rapids to navigate! Don’t worry though, the canoes are very reliable, and you’ll have an experienced guide with you, ensuring you have lots of fun along the way!

14km Day Trip along the River Derwent
Lasting around 6 Hours – Suitable for ages 9+

For the ultimate canoeing adventure, enjoy a 14km trip along the beautiful River Derwent from Darley Dale to Whatstandwell. Admire the stunning scenery whilst tackling small rapids and the twists and turns of the river, for an unforgettable day out!


Kayaking

Explore tranquil waterways at your own pace or test your skills on exciting rapids! Whether you’re a seasoned kayaker or a curious beginner, Rapid Horizons has a kayaking experience for you:

Rapid Horizons 2

Lasting around 2 Hours – Suitable for ages 6+

3km Rapid Kayaking on the Matlock Slalom
Lasting around 2 Hours – Suitable for ages 12+

Be prepared to get wet on this one! You’ll get to enjoy more stunning scenery, whilst taking on the slightly more challenging rapids on the Matlock Slalom! Of course, help will be at hand along the way, to provide guidance and to video those epic moments!


Introduction to Stand Up Paddleboarding

3km Paddle along The Cromford Canal
Lasting around 2 Hours – Suitable for ages 9+

Challenge yourself and refine your balance with stand-up paddleboarding! This fab Rapid Horizons activity offers a fun way to explore the water while getting a full-body workout with lots of laughs along the way, but once you’ve cracked it, you can embrace the tranquil waters at your own pace in your own time.

The experienced guides will run through the basics, taking you on a 3km paddle along the beautiful Cromford Canal from Cromford Wharf to High Peak Junction, perfect for first timers or intermediate SUPers who want to explore this beautiful area in their own time.

Fun Filled Tubing

If you’re looking for a fun and refreshing way to spend a summers day, then grab a tube and get ready to float down the river! Rapid Horizons offer two activities, perfect for families and groups of friends seeking a laid-back float in the Peak District, or an epic rapid adventure in nearby Nottingham!

Peak District Tubing Experience
Lasting around 2 Hours – Suitable for ages 6+

Whether you’re looking for a fun activity for your family or want to have a great laugh with your stag or hen, this is a fun way to spend a couple of hours in the Peak District. Sit back and float downstream, with giggles at the gentle rapids, with the Rapid Horizons experienced guides ensuring you have a safe and enjoyable ride!

Holme Pierrepoint Wild Tubing Ride
Lasting around 2.5 Hours – Suitable for ages 14+

If you’re looking for the ultimate tubing ride, then this is the one for you! The team at Rapid Horizons will build you up gradually, starting on the White Water, before spinning, rocking, and flipping your way to the more challenging waters!  


5-Star White Water Rafting

If you’ve not tried white water rafting, you need to give it a go!  Working as a team, it’s great for hen, stag and corporate events, as well as being a fun activity for families and groups of friends, wanting to try something a little different! Rapid Horizons offer a range of rafting packages, from gentle waters in Cromford, to more heart pumping adventures on the white waters of nearby Holme Pierrepoint, or further afield in the Lake District and Wales.

River Rafting, Matlock
Lasting around 2.5 Hours – Suitable for ages 6+

As the ultimate team adventure, this is perfect for everyone, with no experience necessary! You’ll paddle a total of four miles, through beautiful landscape, with the fun of small rapids along the way. Rapid Horizons’ raft guide will navigate you down stream and catch the funniest moments on camera!

White Water Rafting, Holme Pierrepoint
Lasting around 2 Hours – Suitable for ages 12+

For those who want to try something a little more extreme, Rapid Horizons will take you on an epic white water rafting experience at Holme Pierrepoint, Nottingham! Here the thrills of the course will provide a memorable, fun filled trip out, perfect for hen and stag parties!


Rock Climbing

If you don’t fancy getting wet, or want something extra to try your hand at during your stay, why not scale new heights and conquer your fears with a Rapid Horizons rock-climbing adventure?! There are climbing experiences for all skill levels, from introductory courses to challenging climbs for experienced climbers.

Bespoke Rock Climbing, Black Rocks
Lasting around 2.5 Hours – Suitable for ages 9+

Situated right next door to Rapid Horizons HQ, Black Rocks is the ideal place to get started on the rocks, or take your current climbing abilities to a whole new level, with the expert guidance of the Rapid Horizons Team. You’ll receive full guidance and safety equipment, as well as a chance to try out various rock climbing activities.


Hen & Stag Weekends and Corporate Days

Why not choose one or more Rapid Horizons activities for the ultimate hen or stag weekend, or team building corporate days? Choose from their fabulous range of water activities where you can compete against your mates or work together as a team, and maybe add on a rock-climbing challenge to test your inner strength and determination!

Rapid Horizons partner with several pubs in Matlock, just a five-minute drive from the Rapid Horizons HQ and meeting point. Serving traditional pub grub, with generous portions, delicious stone baked pizzas and buffet options, why not pop in to fuel up before your adventure, or afterwards to reward your achievements?! 

For those on corporate trips requiring meeting rooms, etc, Rapid Horizons can point you in the right direction, with lots of venues nearby to host your business needs.

Location

Rapid Horizons’ HQ is based in Cromford, famous for its industrial heritage, which can be discovered at Cromford Mill, now a UNSECO World Heritage Site. Here you will also find small selection of independent shops, cafés and pubs.

The Cromford Canal is a Site of Special Scientific Interest which can be enjoyed on its 5 mile towpath from Cromford to Ambergate, where you will see an abundance of wildlife, including dragonflies, moorhens and water voles.

Nearby the inland ‘’seaside town’’ of Matlock Bath is a great family day out with amusement arcades, shops, cafes, bars, and fish and chip shops, attracting visitors back year upon year. Here you’ll also find a fab boating lake and nearby attractions such as The Heights of Abraham

For those in search of a few more bars, head to nearby Matlock where you’ll find a great selection of traditional and trendy bars, serving delicious pub food.
