Best Peak District Visitor Attractions: The Heights of Abraham

There’s more to see and do than ever before at the award-winning Heights of Abraham!

The Heights of Abraham, Derbyshire’s oldest tourist attraction, continues to add new attractions and facilities every year, and 2023 has been designated the “Year of Fantastic Happenings” with special events and live music happening at selected times throughout the year. (Check the “What’s On” Page for the latest event details: www.heightsofabraham.com/whats-on ). In addition to Heights of Abraham’s famous cable cars, show cavern and breath-taking submit walks, there’s no now a collection of stunning willow sculptures, a butterfly ISPY trail for younger visitors, a new film theatre and gift shop, and – later this year – an exciting new walkthrough exhibition that promises to visualise the past in a totally new way for the Heights of Abraham.

The estate first opened in 1787 and has been welcoming visitors ever since. This year the 60-acre estate is open during the February Half term holidays, then for long weekends (Fridays to Mondays) from 24th February to 24th March, then  daily from 25th March until November 5th.

Heights of Abraham has many fascinating stories to tell, with links to the industrial revolution, tales of visits from royalty and a rich mining history. The new self-guided audio tour or heritage trail is a perfect place to start, revealing history at your own pace, whilst enjoying stunning views across the Derwent Valley as the narrations play through your own smart phone.
