North East Derbyshire District Council is thrilled to share its first Food and Drink Trail, showcasing the region’s vibrant culinary scene! From award-winning gastropubs to charming tea rooms, fabulous farm shops and passionate local producers, the Trail highlights the fabulous businesses in this area, all bursting with flavour, ideas and innovation!
The North East Derbyshire Food and Drink Trail stretches across the district, currently spanning from Eckington in the North to Wessington in the South. The Trail can be accessed via car or public transport in areas where businesses are more spread apart, or on foot as more businesses join hub areas such as Clay Cross, which boasts an impressive mix of friendly cafés, pubs, restaurants, and local producers.
Gastro Pubs, Restaurants and Village Pubs: Indulge in delectable dishes crafted with locally sourced ingredients at renowned establishments like The Bull’s Head in Holymoorside and The Devonshire Arms in Middle Handley, all washed down with local ales from local brewers.

Amber Valley Vineyards, Wessington Amber valley Vineyards is a small family-owned business on the outskirts of Wessington, on the side of the beautiful amber valley.
Arden Coffee, Clay Cross A coffee company based in Clay Cross offering training sessions on how to make great coffee. They supply coffee shops, cafes, and many other businesses and the wider public with coffee machines, servicing, barista training support, and sales.
Ashover Brew Co, Clay Cross Located in the village of Clay Cross, a stone’s throw away from the scenic Ashover Brewery combines innovative techniques with a rich appreciation for local heritage, offering something truly special for beer enthusiasts. Hogg Norton, Cutthorpe Hogg Norton is a Fruit Liqueur Producer based in Chesterfield, and they are passionate about their products.
Host Coffee, Clay Cross Host Coffee is a specialty coffee house based in Clay Cross that is passionate about great coffee.
Little Morton Farm, North Wingfield Little Morton Farm is a small family-based farm in North Wingfield, producing a variety of foods including homemade pies, sausages and free-range eggs.
Marsh Green Café and Farmshop, Kelstedge Passionate about great food, this business brings people together by creating a friendly environment and the use of the freshest produce from their farm shop to create the dishes on our menu. The Three Horseshoes, Clay Cross Offering traditional homemade pub food ranging from the classics: fish & chips, pies, lasagne and burgers through to pan-fried duck breast, pork Hawk steak or a grill menu for that special occasion! The Peacock at Owler Bar Originally built as a coaching inn and tollhouse to serve those journeying along the perilous roads between Sheffield and Derbyshire, this Grade II listed building retains much of its historical charm and remains the perfect place to stop and take stock of its stunning surroundings. Their food is fresh, sustainable, and has a story to tell. But it’s not faffy! The Peacock at Owler Bar is a Sheffield pub that celebrates the Peak District’s rich farming heritage. From succulent meats and fresh produce to artisan cheeses and regional ales, they work with trusted local suppliers to ensure their menus reflect the best seasonal flavours, while supporting the community around them.
The Peaks Farm Fresh Eggs Co, Holmesfield Their small family farm is located in the beautiful Cordwell Valley in north east Derbyshire on the eastern edge of the Peak District National Park. Their hen’s happiness is their number one priority and their growing flock are truly free-to-roam across the farm and have access to pasture, woodland and shelter. In addition to foraging the farm for tasty treats, their hens are fed a non-GM and soya free diet which produces delicious tasting eggs with vibrant golden yolks. They supply direct from the farm gate in their micro farm shop, but can also deliver locally to private residences and commercial customers. Due to growing demand, they are also a certified and registered egg packing centre, and work with other small, independent free range egg producers in and around the wider peaks area to bring you farm fresh eggs from local farms.
The Sitwell Arms Hotel, Renishaw/Eckington At The Sitwell Arms, culinary excellence is at the heart of their offerings. The Wild Boar Lounge Bar serves delectable home-cooked meals daily, crafted by the dedicated chef who has been delighting guests with his culinary creations for over 30 years. They pride themselves on sourcing local produce to bring you a menu that evolves regularly, featuring weekly specials, grill favourites, chef’s recommendations, a children’s menu, and more.
The Tickled Trout, Barlow The Tickled Trout prides itself on serving great pub food alongside innovative specials using the highest quality artisan ingredients available.
The VanillaCo, Clay Cross VanillaCo is a Midlands-based, allergy-inclusive café and Dessert Studio, created to make indulgence feel safe, thoughtful, and unforgettable. By day, they serve artisan coffee, ceremonial-grade matcha, croissants, açai, and made-to-order sourdough toasties. Totally Cheesecake and Bakes, Clay Cross Totally Cheesecake and Bakes started at the beginning of lockdown in 2020 and has since gone from strength to strength.
Unthank Hall Traditional Meats, Dronfield Unthank Hall Traditional Meats is based on a local farm in Holmesfield in North East Derbyshire. A family farm producing sustainable meat, rearing Dexter Cattle, Ryeland Sheep and native breed outdoor pigs. Their cattle and sheep are 100% grass fed and are certified by A Greener World UK. Their farm shop is online and all orders are delivered directly to customers homes. They specialise in Beef, Pork & Hogget Boxes to include meat from the whole animal, making their business as sustainable as possible.
Wessington’s Fish and Chips, Alfreton A small independent family run shop serving Traditional British Fish and Chips. Everything is prepared fresh onsite. They only use potatoes from British farmers and they only buy fish from sustainable fishing grounds.
