Hidden away in a peaceful spot, with elevated panoramic views stretching for miles over the surrounding countryside, Ernest’s Retreat is a family-run site offering high quality glamping holidays on the edge of the Peak District National Park.

Located just 3 miles from the pretty village of Ashover on the outskirts of Matlock, Ernest’s Retreat is in the middle of nowhere, yet close enough to enjoy all the sights of the Peak District. Here you can enjoy stunning scenery, with wonderful walks right from the door, and soak up the peace and tranquillity of this fabulous area.

Glamping Pods at Ernest’s Retreat

Ernest’s Retreat offers a wide range of Glamping Pods suitable for couples and families. You’re sure to find something to suit you!

The Rambler Pod (Sleeps 2)

There are six Rambler Pods available, each perfectly designed for 2 people. Rambler Pods are fully insulated and double glazed, making them warm and cosy, and they have a lockable window and a door with curtains for privacy. Inside, there are two double power points and a kettle. The Pod has inside and outside lighting.

Remember to bring everything else you would need to camp… except the tent! This may include your own cooker, cutlery, plates, cups, pans, bedding, sleeping mats and/or airbeds. These items are not provided.

There is a purpose-built toilet block with shower facilities centrally located on the field. The showers are temperature regulated and free of charge – no coin meters! Toilet roll and hand soap is provided.

The Camping Cabin (Sleeps 4)

The eight Camping Cabins at Ernest’s Retreat are a fabulous and fun camping experience, purpose built as a fantastic retreat whatever the weather. They are ideal for family get-togethers, or a romantic break.

The Camping Cabins have a central seating area, with space for a double mattress, and single-sized wooden sleeping benches to accommodate up to 4 people.

Each Camping Cabin comes equipped with a kettle and has two double power points, ideal for charging phones. There is inside and outside lighting.

The Glamper Pod (Sleeps 5)

Finally, there are six top-of-the-range Glamper Pods. Perfect for groups or families, each Glamper Pod has a double bed and three single bunk beds. Mattresses are included, but please bring your own bedding.

The Glamper Pods are fully insulated and offer a warm, cosy, deluxe camping experience. Each has a kettle, power points and interior and exterior lights, as well as curtains for privacy.

Ernest’s Retreat Location

Ernest’s Retreat is situated in open countryside just 3 miles from the pretty village of Ashover. You’re within easy reach of the market towns of Matlock, Matlock Bath and Bakewell, all of which are famed for their interesting shops and offer a great range of cafés, restaurants and pubs. The elegant spa town of Buxton is also nearby, with its beautiful Georgian architecture and stunning Opera House.

Ernest’s Retreat is within easy travelling distance of a wide range of visitor attractions, including the magnificent cable cars over the Derwent Valley at the Heights of Abraham, and the historic country estates of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall.

At Ernest’s Retreat you’ll find the most beautiful walks right from your door, including direct access to the Chesterfield Round Walk. The wonderful traffic-free cycling and walking trails of the Monsal Trail and the High Peak Trail are also close by.
