The Old Granary

The Old Granary is an award-winning holiday cottage set amid idyllic Derbyshire countryside, close to the pretty market town of Matlock.  This lovingly converted stone barn has been restored to the highest standards, providing luxurious, spacious accommodation in a breathtaking location.

The Old Granary

Set in five acres of private landscaped gardens on the edge of the Peak District National Park, there is so much to explore right from the door of the Old Granary, with miles of footpaths winding through gently rolling hills.  There are quaint towns and villages very close by, with independent shops, cafés and galleries to enjoy. And there is no shortage of cosy country pubs to relax in after a day out enjoying the fresh air!

The Old Granary sleeps up to 6 people, with the added option of further accommodation for 2 people in our cosy Shepherd’s Hut (priced separately).  It’s the perfect location for a family holiday or a get-together with friends.

Your four-legged friend will love it here too! We welcome one well-behaved dog by prior arrangement, charged at £25 per stay.

The Old Granary Accommodation

We believe that five-star accommodation should be even better than a home-from-home; it should be a sanctuary in which to relax and unwind.

Downstairs in the Old Granary you’ll find a spacious lounge, with a wood-burning stove, original oak beams and a terracotta-tiled floor with underfloor heating.

The old country style doesn’t mean that you’ll miss out on modern amenities though – you’ll also find a 40in LCD television, a DVD surround-sound system, a blu-ray player with approx 50 films, a CD player and an iPod docking station that plays music through ceiling speakers positioned throughout the cottage.

The Old Granary

The cosy kitchen/dining room is perfect for sharing family meals together.  It has traditional painted, hand-made cabinets with granite worktops, a Belfast sink, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, ironing facility, two fridges, a small freezer and an LCD TV with freeview channels.  For cooking up a feast you’ll love the electric range cooker, but there’s also a microwave, Dualit four-slot toaster, kettle, Dualit coffee machine and a Graef coffee grinder.

The kitchen has a door leading on to a patio area with amazing views over the surrounding countryside, and side windows overlooking the orchard.

Upstairs, you’ll find two double bedrooms, both with en-suite shower rooms.  The first double bedroom has an antique King-size French cane bed, made up with crisp white linen and a feather topper.  The room has original oak beams, a double-opening window with far-reaching views, fine furniture and sheepskin rugs, as well as an LCD television with freeview channels.  This bedroom is ideal for families as it has an interlinking door into the twin bedroom.

The second double bedroom is luxurious and characterful, again with a King-size cane bed with a canopy and a feather topper.  The room has original oak beams, sheepskin rugs and fine furniture, as well as an LCD television with freeview channels.

There’s also a twin bedroom, with two iron single beds, each with 1000-pocket sprung mattresses and feather toppers.  The room is light and airy with a feature window and a velux window, sheepskin rugs, fine furniture and an LCD television with freeview channels.  This bedroom is accessed from the landing area and also has an interlinking door into one of the double bedrooms.

A separate family bathroom with a bath is also located upstairs.

Finally, for perfect relaxation and indulgence outside, what better than a dip in our Jacuzzi hydrotherapy hot tub? It has seven seats, colour-changing lights and a waterfall, all overlooking our fantastic open views.

Our Shepherd’s Hut

Our bespoke, purpose-designed Shepherd’s Hut is located within our peaceful gardens, overlooking the most fantastic views.

It is beautifully designed and decorated inside, with painted match boarding on the walls and an oak floor.  It is also extremely comfortable, with a full-size double bed, plump pillows, and traditional ticking stripe bedding.

To keep it cosy all year round the Shepherd’s Hut is fully insulated, has underfloor heating and a small wood burning stove.  You’ll also find a fold-out table and chairs, electric sockets and lighting.

The Shepherd’s Hut sleeps 2 people and is priced at £85 per night, reducing to £75 per night for bookings of 4 nights or more.

Please note that the Shepherd’s Hut can only be booked in conjunction with The Old Granary barn.
