Rocking Stone Cottage is a beautiful rustic barn conversion that has been superbly refurbished to create a luxurious property sleeping 4 people. The large arched window that spans over both floors is such a striking feature, enabling guests to enjoy the fabulous views of the surrounding countryside from both the open living space and from the comfort of the king-sized bed on the first floor.

The open plan living accommodation retains rugged timber beams and exposed stone walls, with an impressive and welcoming wood-burning stove in the heart of the spacious lounge, making the perfect place to relax after a day discovering all that this wonderful area has to offer. There is also a TV/DVD Player with Firestick, and numerous books and board games for guests to enjoy.

The modern dining kitchen area is a wonderful bright, clean space, with modern appliances including oven/hob, fridge-freezer and dishwasher, together with all essential cookware. Here you will also find a dining table where you can enjoy a delicious meal, whilst taking in those beautiful views, with the warmth of the underfloor heating. Large patio doors allow light to flood in and give direct access to the pretty patio area and cottage garden. There is also a handy cloakroom area, perfect for storing coats and those all-important walking boots.

Leading from the kitchen is the staircase, which takes you to the two luxurious bedrooms, both of which have sumptuous beds, with feather down pillows and duvets, ensuring you have the most restful stay. The main bedroom is simply wonderful! Imagine waking to uninterrupted views of the surrounding countryside through the large arched window from the comfort of your cosy bed! Here you will also find traditional fitted wardrobes with plenty of storage space, and a modern en-suite shower room with walk in rain shower and soft fluffy towels and bathrobes.

The second of the bedrooms is another superb room with skylights and a king-sized bed that can be converted to two singles, making Rocking Stone Cottage perfect for couples and families. This bedroom has the use of the elegant bathroom with a free-standing roll top bath and a walk-in rainwater shower.

The outside is spectacular and incredibly peaceful. The pretty terraced area with patio furniture overlooks miles and miles of beautiful countryside, where you are sure to see farm animals and horses grazing, together with an abundance of wildlife, complemented by the relaxing sound of birdsong each morning.

There’s also a modern gas barbecue for those looking to enjoy a spot of alfresco dining, and a handy EV charging point.

The Stables

The smaller of the properties at Rocking Stone Cottages is The Stables, a contemporary yet cosy renovated barn. This romantic hideaway is perfect for 2 people, with all accommodation set on one level and the benefit of underfloor heating throughout.

With open plan living, complemented by high ceilings, large windows with wooden shutters, exposed beams, and the most amazing roof lights, you will be wowed as soon as you enter this cosy space. The lounge area has a lovely wood-burning stove, perfect for snuggling in front of on cooler days, together with TV/DVD with Firestick. There is also a snug kitchenette area with fridge freezer, cooker and hob, all essential crockery and cookware, and a sweet, romantic table for two.

The bedroom at The Stables has the most amazing sky light. Being tucked away in a secluded location away from light pollution, the skies come alive at night at Rocking Stone Cottages which allows for magical star gazing from the comfort of the double bed! There is also a fabulous en-suite bathroom with walk-in rainwater shower and soft snuggly towels.

Outside, there are two gorgeous patios, perfect for relaxing in the sunshine and ideal for enjoying an evening drink whilst admiring the most beautiful countryside that meets The Stables and the breathtaking views beyond.

The Stables also has the benefit of an EV Charging Point.

Relaxing Location

The village of Birchover is an historic gem, with so much to discover. Surrounded by miles of breathtaking countryside, there are beautiful walks right from the door, or you can just admire the views from Rocking Stone Cottages‘ pretty terraces whilst relaxing in the sunshine. From the garden you can admire 2 pairs of resident buzzards and a tawny owl. Don’t miss exploring the mysterious Rowtor Rocks on the edge of the village though, a wonderful system of caves, carvings and lookout points created in the 17th Century by the village parson, or the peaceful expanse of Stanton Moor, clad in heather and bilberries in the summer months, where you’ll find the Nine Ladies Stone Circle. Another popular walk for all ages in this area takes you to Robin Hood’s Stride, a collection of rock formations that offer spectacular views over the surrounding landscape.

Birchover is just 5 miles from the lovely town of Matlock, with its cafés, independent shops and a boating lake, and also close to the inland ‘seaside town’ of Matlock Bath, with its vibrant arcades and wealth of visitor attractions.

For those who prefer to browse picturesque gardens and stately homes, you’ll be spoilt for choice, with the beautiful medieval manor house of Haddon Hall just three miles away, and slightly further the magnificent Chatsworth House with its fabulous deer park.

There are many pretty villages nearby too, each with their own charm and more footpaths to traverse, such as Youlgreave, Stanton in Peak and Winster. For those who like to browse the shops, the delightful market town of Bakewell is a just a 10-minute drive, with a lovely selection of independent shops, cafes and restaurants, as well as its popular weekly market!

However, the real draw at Rocking Stone Cottages is the fact that if you choose, you can simply park the car up, relax in the garden watching the wildlife, enjoy walks from the door, and take a leisurely 10-minute stroll down quiet lanes to the two village pubs, both serving delicious food, and one with its own microbrewery!
