Designed by Nicola Harding, the rooms at The Cavendish Hotel take inspiration from Chatsworth’s interiors, history, art and people; its connection to the land and local community. “We sourced incredible pieces from upholsterers, craftspeople and makers, such as locally woven organic cotton and linen fabrics and glazed ceramic bedside lamps made by a member of the Chatsworth team. We even drew on the art and family photos from the Devonshire family’s personal collection.” – Nicola Harding

The food offering at The Cavendish Hotel has been curated by Executive Chef, Adam Harper and champions the best of local produce. Working closely with the gardeners and farmers at Chatsworth, as well as local artisan suppliers from the estate and surrounding areas- the majority of whom are based within a ten-mile radius of the hotel – Adam has developed menus that celebrate the Peak District’s best-known producers, including trout from Ladybower Fisheries, cold pressed rapeseed oil from Bakewell’s Brock & Moreton and pork from the family-run Moss Valley Farm.

With views across the Chatsworth landscape, The Garden Room is a bright, relaxed setting to enjoy lunch or drinks and dinner, with a large terrace providing the perfect spot during the summer.

Meanwhile, with 3 AA Rosettes, The Gallery showcases innovative and imaginative dishes in relaxed surroundings. Those looking for a one-of-a-kind experience can book the restaurant’s kitchen table, where they can watch the chefs prepare a bespoke menu.

Antique furniture, stone fireplaces and traditional elements feature throughout, and punches of colour and texture add a sense of fun, from playful lamps made by a Chatsworth-based potter to upholstery and fabrics woven in Derbyshire and Yorkshire.

Around the estate, you can also enjoy other fabulous pubs and restaurants, such as The Devonshire Arms at Beeley and The Devonshire Arms at Pilsley.

Just 15 minutes away is Haddon Hall, claimed as one of the most beautiful medieval manor houses in England. Its delightful hillside setting, overlooking the River Wye, climbing roses and beautiful gardens, make for a delightful place to visit for a day out.

Baslow itself is a pretty village, centred around a village green with a lovely selection of shops and a park. Overlooking Baslow are the gritstone edges of Baslow Edge and Curbar Edge, favourites for walkers, especially those looking to catch a glimpse of the gorgeous highland cows that graze the moorland or the red deer that can sometimes be heard bellowing in the autumn.

More pretty villages and walking/cycling paradises can be found in nearby places such as Eyam, famous for its brave quarantine during a historic plague outbreak in the 1600s, or the charming ancient market town of Bakewell. The former railway line of The Monsal Trail is a perfect traffic-free route for walking or cycling, with cycle hire facilities nearby.
