Callow Barn is a beautiful 19th Century converted barn nestling in the hills above the popular village of Hathersage.  Surrounded by stunning countryside with walks right from the door, this lovely Peak District holiday cottage is perfectly located for exploring this wonderful part of the Peak District National Park.  Callow Barn sleeps up to 8 people in 5 bedrooms, and it’s dog-friendly too!


About Callow Barn

A unique feature of Callow Barn is that it is comprised of two buildings joined at an angle to one another, resulting in 210° panoramic views towards Stanage Edge and the Hope Valley. The beautifully converted detached property provides outstanding self-catering holiday accommodation in the heart of Derbyshire.  Here you’ll find charming character features mixed with the best conveniences of modern living.  The delightful village of Hathersage is just a 30 minute stroll away, with its great range of shops, cafes and pubs, yet at Callow Barn you’re surrounded by the peace and quiet of wonderful open countryside.

Callow Barn sleeps up to 8 people in five bedrooms.  There are two King size bedrooms, one with an en-suite bathroom, the other with an en-suite shower room. There’s a further double bedroom and two single bedrooms (one downstairs).  Each comfortable bedroom is beautifully furnished and equipped, and all bed linen and duvets are provided.

The family bathroom upstairs has a large, double-ended bath with an over bath shower, and there’s also an additional WC downstairs, adjacent to the single bedroom on the ground floor.

The spacious lounge boasts a wood-burning stove for getting cosy after a day out exploring in the Peak District hills (logs are provided), and a large feature gritstone fireplace.  There’s a Smart TV with a NOW TV entertainments package installed as well, plus fast ( 76 mbps) free Wi-Fi throughout the property.

The large, well-equipped farmhouse kitchen contains everything you might need for cooking up a feast, including a modern electric range cooker with an induction hob, a large American-style fridge/freezer, plus a dishwasher to do the hard work so you can relax.  The water for Callow Barn is the purest you’ll taste – supplied from a private spring in the Peak District hills, filtered and UV-treated to ensure its purity.

The large dining room is flooded with light from the original arched window. With plenty of room to seat up to 8 people, it’s the perfect space to get together to plan the next day’s adventures.

A separate utility room has a washing machine and tumble drier, in case the Peak District weather gets the better of you and your clothing!


Stunning Garden Views

Outside at Callow Barn you’ll find a large, private garden surrounding the house and a patio overlooking the valley, with a gas barbecue and garden furniture – ideal for al fresco dining or an evening tipple watching the sun set over the fields.  There is a lockable bike store and car parking is available for up to 5 vehicles.

Callow Barn has a thorough cleaning routine and a safer check-in system. There’s also a whole house ventilation system and an inbuilt vacuum system to reduce the risk of spreading airborne particles around the property.

Callow Barn is situated in the heart of the stunning countryside of the Peak District National Park, with rolling hills and wooded valleys in every direction.  It’s a paradise for walkers, runners, cyclists and climbers, with the magnificent gritstone escarpment of Stanage Edge close by.  

Only a short walk away you’ll find the lovely village of Hathersage, a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, with a great range of outdoor equipment shops, as well as a gift shop, a butcher, greengrocer, pharmacy and two general stores, not to mention six pubs/bars, numerous cafes and restaurants and a wonderful delicatessen.  

Only a short drive away you’ll find the ancient market town of Bakewell, with its fabulous market and larger shops, not to mention plenty of places to try the famed Bakewell puddings and tarts!  

For perfect family days out, the awe-inspiring country house estate of Chatsworth is only a short drive away on the edge of Bakewell, as is the romantic fairytale Haddon Hall, set high above the River Wye and unchanged since the days of Henry VIII. 

A 20 minute drive in the other direction takes you to the lovely village of Castleton, with no less than four spectacular show caverns and the ruins of Peveril Castle to explore.

To make the most of your stay in this beautiful area, why not try one of our local Let’s Go Peak District walks, all of which start and end in Hathersage?

2 miles: Let’s Go Peak District Kids’ Walk – Stanage Edge

This Kids’ Walk is a great one for adventurous adults too, taking in the most incredible views from the top of Stanage Edge and allowing great scrambling opportunities.

2 miles: Hathersage Fairy Woods

This short, easy walk follows well-made paths up and out of the village, past the church, through beautiful beech woodlands and back down into Hathersage on country lanes.

6 miles: Hathersage and Stanage Edge

This lovely walk takes you out of the village of Hathersage and up to the gritstone heights of Stanage Edge, with awe-inspiring views.  You then descend via Carhead Rocks and back into the village, along very pretty country lanes. 

6 miles: Hathersage via Grindleford

A gentle walk, this route starts and ends in Hathersage, following the River Derwent to the pretty village of Grindleford, taking in beautiful countryside along the way.  

8 miles : Hathersage via Longshaw

This lovely walk is a little challenging in places but the views are definitely well worth the effort.  The route starts and ends in Hathersage, meanders along the River Derwent to Grindleford, onwards and upwards on to Froggatt Edge, through parts of the National Trust Longshaw Estate, over to Surprise View, and back down into Hathersage.

12 miles: Hathersage via Stanage Edge and Higger Tor

This walk takes in the dramatic gritstone heights of Stanage Edge and Higger Tor.  It is not for the fainthearted, but offers some of the finest views in the Dark Peak and the stunning scenery and variety of terrain more than rewards the effort.
